There are many great actresses who have never won an Oscar for acting.

When the word "greatest" or "best" comes to the scene, subjectivity is something to keep in mind. Yet, institutions like Oscar Awards have made themselves an authority to make these adjectives objective.

Such filtering has often been seen as a hit or miss. And when it is a miss, it is quite baffling.

While the audience sees the performance as being the greatest, it gets shrugged under the rug by the golden statue.

With that in mind, we hope to shine a light on a few women actors who have pushed the envelope but have not received their due homage. Here are five great actresses who have never won an Oscar for acting.

Helena Bonham Carter

She has given amazing performances — from Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter franchise to the Red Queen in Alice in Wonderland series.

With over a hundred acting credits, Bonham Carter has only received two Oscar nominations. Her first nomination was for her lead role in The Wings of the Dove in 1998.

Then, in 2011, she was nominated for her supporting role in The King's Speech. But unfortunately, she does not have a win yet.

Amy Adams

Amy Adams is another name on the list of great actresses who have never won an Oscar for acting. She has been nominated for a bevy of Oscar Awards, six times to be exact, and has lost each year.

It all started with a powerful performance in the 2005 movie Junebug. Then, she received nominations for Doubt, The Fighter, The Master, and 2013's American Hustle.

In 2019, she was nominated for the sixth time for her performance in Vice, only to be snubbed again.

Adam is an excellent actress, so it would not be a surprise if she is nominated for the seventh time for the Academy Awards in the future.

Jennifer Lopez

While many stars have been nominated for Oscars and not won them, Jennifer Lopez has not even been nominated for one.

Many were surprised when she was not nominated for Selena, but that is not her biggest snub. Instead, it was 2019's Hustlers, in which she portrayed a New York City stripper who swindles her customers.

She was lauded by film critics around the country and nominated by the Screen Actors Guild and the Golden Globes, but she was mysteriously omitted from the list of Oscar nominees.

The singer confessed to Oprah Winfrey that she was "a little sad because there was a lot of buildup to it." But unfortunately, she was never nominated and did not win an Academy Award.

Jamie Lee Curtis

Jamie Lee Curtis is one of the great actresses who have never won an Oscar for acting. Arguably, her best performance was as Helen in James Cameron's underappreciated spy thriller True Lies.

She showed superb acting skills in the movie since the role allowed her to show off her great variety by allowing her to be hilarious, sensual, innocent, threatening, and charming.

While the movie might not have been a contender for Oscar Awards, it was a major hit, with critics lauding Curtis.

As a result, she was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role by the Screen Actors Guild and won Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes.

But unfortunately, she was not nominated for the Academy Awards.

Jennifer Aniston

Many know Jennifer Aniston as Rachel Green from the hit sitcom Friends. However, after the series ended, she expanded her reach from TV shows to movies.

She did many films, and one of her best ones is Cake from 2014. Aniston gave a powerful performance as a mother struggling with substance abuse following her son's death in a car accident.

Both fans and critics appreciated her acting skills in the 2014 movie and lauded her for showing range. 

She was nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama at the Golden Globes and Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor by the Screen Actors Guild.

Therefore, many expected her to be at least nominated for the Academy Awards. But unfortunately, she was never nominated for Oscars and became another one of the great actresses who have never won an Oscar for acting.
