The veteran actress was born on 6 March 1969 as an adopted daughter of Arnold and Nancy Pietz. She received her school education from The Milwaukee High School of the Arts and later earned her graduate degree from the DePaul University's Theatre School.
She started her career playing a guest role in the series Star Trek: The Next Generation in 1993. She got a breakthrough in her career for her role in Caroline in the City series, which was aired from 1995 to 1999.
Her work in the series earned her the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a comedy series. Her notable works include No Tomorrow (2016) Halfway (2017), and You're the Worst (2017). She is now working on a movie named, Saddle Up!, which is set to release in 2018.
