While Kaepernick has been very appreciative of his girlfriend, many have pointed out that she has been a bad influence on him, often attributing his Muslim activism to her.
Here’s a look at Nessa Diab and her relationship with Kaepernick.

Diab began working on radio shows during her college days and eventually got her own show titled The Baydestrian Report, which covered news in the San Francisco Bay Area.
She gained more recognition for her celebrity interviews on Wild 94.9 and YouTube. The interviews paved her way to join MTV as a star on Girl Code. Colin Kaepernick And Nessa Diab
Kaepernick and his potential wife were first linked together in July 2015. Before the two got together, she was in a relationship with his former teammate, Aldon Smith. It’s speculated that the altercation between Kaepernick and Diab took place because of her.
After Kaepernick and Diab went public with their relationship, he was embroiled in another string of controversial discussions after he took the knee during the national anthem.
Steve King from Iowa Called Kaepernick out for his action, blaming Diab, who is Muslim, for changing the football player’s political views.
King was just one of many to denounce Kaepernick and despite the strong criticisms flying his way, Kaepernick defended his decision. He explained his actions were a show of support for the Black Lives Matter Movement.
I’m not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.
Diab was also in the midst of a controversy after she posted a tweet aimed at NFL star Ray Lewis, who had spoken against Kaepernick for taking a stand against racial injustice.
The tweet contained a photo comparing Lewis wrapping his arms around Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti to the scene of Samuel L. Jackson doing the same to Leonardo DiCaprio in Django Unchained.
Lewis later revealed that it was this controversial tweet that stopped Kaepernick from being signed to the Ravens.
Since then, Kaepernick has remained unsigned to any professional team. He has focused more of his attention on activism. He is also getting his own show on Netflix titled Colin in Black and White. The show is slated to come out on October 29 and tells the story of his high school years.
