Jan Svendsen is no stranger to big stages, having been on the massive Olympic gala. However, her getting engaged story was something even bigger than that, and an event which will live long into the memory not just for her and her fiance, but also the attendees.

The San Mateo native was a professional weight thrower, who competed for various women's shot put competitions and even represented the United States four times in international meets. The former athlete was born as Jan Friedlander Svendsen on 9 November 1948 in San Mateo, California. She recieved her bachelor's degree in Arts and Sociology from the San Diego State University at the age of 31. Later she went to the American Graduate School of International Management and pursued her master's degree in marketing in 1983.

In her early age, Jan was an athlete, who competed in weight throwing for UCLA, Wilt's Athletic Club and even in Pan American Games. She won the AAU Indoor National Championships for the shot put in 1973. 

Jan Svendsen Now: Involved In Marketing And Business Development

After full stopping athletic profession, Jan's bio expanded after entering the marketing industry. She started working at the Ogilvy Advertising Company, serving as a Vice President until 1992. She was the director of marketing and business development for both the Tony Awards and the Broadway League from 1999 to 2016.

During the 17 years at Broadway League, she conducted most of her work in the role of Director of Marketing and Business Development and Chief Marketing Officer. She used to supervise the marketing and branding of the company, especially in New York and across North America.

Jan joined the Charity Network in 2018, initially, working as a Chief Marketing Officier. Her bio reads that she has been serving as a Chief Creative officer since 2017. She works on the overall content for the Charity Network, Prizeo, and Charitybuzz and also focuses on film and other content opportunities at 2929 entertainment.

As of April 2018, the organization has raised more than 7 million dollars, proving the power of celebrity, technology, and media as a force for good.

Jan has been dating her filmmaker boyfriend, Glenn Weiss for more than six years.

The duo hinted about their romance while attending the 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards Governors Ball in September 2012 in Los Angeles, California. The couple not only rocked the red carpet of the event with swag, but they were also seen flaunting PDA with the partners close to inseparable.

A source who attended the event was close to notice the affection between the two and was even heard saying the couple was a real deal.

Jan's longterm boyfriend Glenn is an American producer and director, who specializes in conducting television and live events. Not only that, he is the recipient of various awards including 11 Emmys and 6 Directors Guild of America awards.

And the couple were part of an 'I Was There' moment which took the A-listers by surprise at the 70th Emmys.

Jen and Glenn had attended the ceremony more in hope than sure of winning an award, in which Glenn was nominated. 

The couple could not hide their happiness as Glenn was announced the winner of the Director Of A Variety Special awards. And accepting the award he asked Jan if she always wondered why he did not call her his girlfriend and revealed that he just did not want to call her girlfriend but his wife.

At first, he thanked Jan for being the “sunshine” of his life and asked her to marry him, in front of the full auditorium containing the biggest names in Hollywood including Benedict Cumberbatch, Peter Dinklage, and Claire Foy. 

Calling Jan on the stage, her husband-to-be presented her with a ring his father gave to his mother 67 years ago to put on her finger. "Will you marry me?", he asked.

Accepting the proposal Jen nodded without a word and sealed it with a kiss. Not an eye remained dry as the aged couple finally got engaged, with comedian Leslie Jones later calling it one of the best speeches she had ever heard on her Twitter handle.

Talking about the proposal, Jan later she stated that she had no idea about it and was still processing about the moment.

Following the proposal at the Emmys, the internet has not been able to contain their emotions with goodwill messages being shared about the engagement. Various renowned celebrities have taken to their Twitter account to show their affection about the moment.

American musician Jordyn Taylor hilariously requested to add the Emmys to the list of shows that produced more successful couples than The Bachelor. Similarly,  BuzzFeed blogger Cates Holderness stated that she was so into the proposal, which was one of the best things she had ever seen on the Emmy’s in a while.

Former theater agent Roland Scahill wrote that Netflix was going to make a series on Emmy's wedding proposal by the end of next month. 

Are The Couple Getting Married In 2018?

It looks like the couple is finally giving their relationship a name. After being together for more than half a decade and a lot wiser about the other partner, Jan's fiance Glenn could not have chosen the better platform to ask her to get married.
