Emily VanCamp Leaves ‘The Resident’ Just Days after Welcoming First Baby
Emily VanCamp, a series regular and the female lead in The Resident, will no longer appear in the medical drama's fifth season, which will debut on September 21, 2021. That ends her journey as Nicolette Nevin in the series, with four memorable seasons.
Deadline confirmed the news of her exit on August 30, revealing she had asked to be released from the show at the end of last season. The report suggested that there was an effort to bring her back in Season 5, but it did not work out even though she was reportedly open for the opportunity.
There are also talks that she might return as a guest star in the future. However, the creators are now planning to wrap up the storyline of VanCamp's character by early Season 5.

Her last appearance in The Resident was in the Season 4 finale, where she welcomed her and Conrad’s (Matt Czuchry) first child, a girl, Georgiana Grace Hawkins. But her successful delivery came after she was stabbed by a man the hospital had turned away because it was closed.
"I'm sad Emily VanCamp is leaving, I watched her since Revenge, will miss her on the show," a fan tweeted, addressing the news of the actress' exit from the show.
Another chimed, "This is terrible. Another great show losing a lead person so soon. She will be really missed."
Emily VanCamp Recently Welcomed a Baby
The decision to depart from The Resident was consciously planned by VanCamp. The reason behind that being she was expecting her own first child together with her husband, Josh Bowman. Additionally, the confirmation of her exit came just a few days after she welcomed a daughter named Iris.
On August 26, the Canadian actress grammed a couple of pictures, announcing the birth of her child. The first snap in the slide featured a black-and-white photo of her baby girl's hand wrapped around the actress' finger.
However, the second picture was a picture of her and her husband kissing each other while she was still pregnant with their baby. She had previously kept the details about her pregnancy private with no official announcement at all.
"I’ve been waiting for this day!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!! Sending your family SO much love," Russian-American actress Margarita Levieva commented, congratulating the fellow actress, while a fan chimed, "You’re the cutest pregnant person I’ve ever seen. Congrats to your precious family!!"
‘The Resident’ Star's Relationship with Husband Josh Bowman
VanCamp and her husband Bowman have been together since they first met while working on the ABC drama Revenge, which aired from 2011 to 2015. The couple started dating in 2011.
They continued to relish their relationship but kept their romance relatively away from the spotlight. The two eventually got engaged in May 2017.
Announcing the news, VanCamp grammed a picture of her covering her face with her hands and showing off her engagement ring while surrounded by nature.
Over a year later, on December 15, the duo walked down the aisle in the Bahamas in front of their close friends and family. The actress even thanked them through Instagram for joining them to celebrate with the couple, posting a black and white snap of the wedding day. "We are eternally grateful," she added.
VanCamp and Bowman later went on a late honeymoon to Africa, where they experienced a safari, swam with sharks, and hiked Table mountain.
