Talking about the initialization of their relationship in 2010, Rachel said humorously that it was very ”Desperate Housewives.” The duo first dated at a National Rifle Association event and hit it off from then on.
However, the duo is not much excited about their marriage. Susan's partner Rachel told to Hollywood Reporter that the two did not felt any urgency to tie the knot in October 2011. She said:
“I feel that gay people not being able to get married for generations, forever, meant that we came up with alternative ways of recognizing relationships. And I worry that if everybody has access to the same institutions that we lose the creativity of subcultures having to make it on their own. And I like gay culture.”
As for the reason, she added that she is uncertain about the assimilationist aspect of gay marriage. They currently reside in their New York Apartment, they separate time visiting their pre-Civil War farmhouse in Berkshires, Western Massachusetts for the weekend, where they enjoy home-cooked food prepared by Susan.
Whether they are not in a rush for their marriage or there is something entirely subjective and personal, both Susan and Rachel are happy spending the time together.
