Calle Is the First Hispanic Supergirl

Calle will portray Supergirl in DC's 2022 movie, The Flash. Her casting makes her the first Latina actress ever to helm the role. Previously, Helen Slater, Laura Vandervoort, and Melissa Benoist had played Supergirl in live-action.

While Calle topped the charts among 425 actresses who auditioned for the part, she didn't know she had made the cut until director Andy Muschietti revealed the big news.

But before the revelation, he tricked the 23-year-old. He video called her and said he needed to ask her a couple of questions. After a brief conversation, the director questioned if she knew how to fly.

Confused, the Colombian actress replied that she didn't know how to fly but would try it.

Finally, the filmmaker showed her the Supergirl costume and stated, "Okay, then maybe you will hit this." Then, forsaking the trickery, he also added, "You know what? You are Supergirl."

As soon as Muschietti announced the decision, Calle broke into tears and thanked the team for the opportunity.
