Bought Eminem's NFT to Drop a Viral Song ‘Dear Slim’
MacDonald released a hit song, ‘Dear Slim’ on May 14, 2021 - the song is an ode to the rapper Eminem.
The Vancouver-born rapper came up with the song after he purchased an NFT of 'Stan's Revenge' by Eminem for $100,000 the same month.
“If you get that NFT, not only do you have like the dopest collectible ever but you’ll be in possession of an Eminem beat,” MacDonald remembered saying that to himself during an interview with Unique Access Ent. on May 15, 2021.
In the recreated video, he replicates the story and aesthetics of the original song 'Stan's Revenge,' including the use of the same make and model of Stan's car. The video has close to 10 million views on YouTube.
The original song by Eminem, which plays in the background of ‘Dear Slim,’ was about a deranged fan named Stan who sends the rapper letter after letter until he blows a fuse and commits a heinous act.
Road to Fame: From a Wrestler to Famed Rapper
MacDonald, who was born on September 21, 1988, took a long route before establishing himself as a famed rapper.
After moving from British Columbia to Los Angeles, he initially started as a professional wrestler under the ring name Allstar. Between 2003 and 2009, he performed in 62 matches, with a total of 22 wins.
He slowly moved towards creating music, but that was not easy for him for so many reasons, including the financial crisis.
During that time, the rapper’s younger sister helped him by lending him money for rent and food.
“When I was chasing my dreams and my parents couldn’t lend me any more money - I had to ask her. It’s a tough moment when you ask your baby sister to help you with rent and food,” he wrote on Facebook, mentioning his sister, on March 8, 2020.
Fast forward to the present, and MacDonald has achieved a huge reputation as a rapper, singer, and songwriter. His songs have featured on the Billboard Hot 100 multiple times.
