HGTV’s ‘Home Town Takeover’ Power Couple Erin and Ben Napier Find New Beginnings
Home Town is an American TV series that premiered back in January 2016. The HGTV show followed married couple Ben and Erin Napier on their journey of restoring their small town of Laurel, Mississippi.
Because of the show's popularity, the Napier family became a favorite among the viewers. On May 2, 2021, a spin-off titled Home Town Takeover premiered on HGTV.
The six-episode event series welcomed the beloved couple on their new adventure of a whole-town makeover of Wetumpka, Alabama.
Ben and Erin's New Show
Home Town Takeover brought the star couple back to the big screen once more.
In this new journey, the couple headed to Wetumpka. In recent years, the town had been in terrible conditions because of a rerouted highway and a devastating tornado.
The duo used their skills and creativity and took on 12 major renovation projects.
Additionaly, the couple tried to help the community get back on its feet by renovating everything from restaurants to shops and historic homes.
The show also introduced famous people to their cast lists. Celebrities like Sheryl Crow, Randy Fenoli, and Steve Ford have also lent their talents to the town’s overhaul.
The series ended on June 6, 2021, helping a family finish their 16-year-old overdue renovation.
Birth of Their Second Child
While the show was on air, the HGTV stars welcomed a new addition to their family behind the scenes.
Erin gave birth to their second child Mae Napier, on May 28, 2021. The couple named their baby girl after Erin's beloved Aunt Mae.
Erin also took to Instagram to share the exciting news with her fans. Along with three photos of the newly born, she tagged her husband on the post.
The couple had previously announced their pregnancy back in April. They found out they were expecting a child in September 2020.
The pair was in the middle of simultaneously filming both their shows Home Town and Home Town Takeover.
It had been tough for the couple to film, travel, and prepare for the new baby all at the same time amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, they were skeptical if they could go through this pregnancy at all because of Erin’s medical condition.
In addition to long-term health issues, the graphic designer had been suffering from excruciating stomach pain from the age of 19.
In 2014, through an emergency exploratory surgery, she was diagnosed with a perforated appendix. The appendix had been bursting and regenerating for years, causing scar tissue to wrap around her organs and bind them together.
Even after removing the tissue and her appendix, the doctors informed Erin that there was very little chance of having children.
However, on Mother's Day 2017, the couple was shocked to learn that they were expecting a baby. They welcomed their first child, Helen, in January 2018.
The couple was pleased and grateful for their change of fortune.
About the Couple
Ben and Erin have been together since their college time. The pair got married in 2008.
The couple got discovered by the channel when their self-renovated house was featured on several magazines and websites.
The newlyweds had renovated a 1925 craftsman cottage in Laurel, Miss, into their dream house.
The HGTV producer sent them a mail offering them a show on their channel. So naturally, the couple took up the opportunity, and the rest is history.
