All of ‘The Walking Dead’ Spin-Offs: From Promotional Webisodes to the Ones in the Works
Like Marvel and DC universe, AMC's The Walking Dead has garnered a considerable fanbase worldwide. Based on an eponymous comic book series created by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard, the series premiered on October 31, 2010.
And since then, there has been no turning back. The show ended its 10th season in April 2021, and its season 11 will hit the screens on August 22, 2021.
In its long run, the series has starred an array of talented actors such as Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Ryan Hurst, Austin Nichols, Danai Gurira, Chandler Riggs, and Steven Yeun, among many others.
Sadly, the upcoming 11th season will wrap up the long-running series, available in the United States through AMC and internationally through Fox Networks Group and Disney+.
However, the inevitable end wouldn't affect fans so much, for the show has already forged a foundation for The Walking Dead universe, where zombies — often referred to as walkers — dominate the world.
And with every passing day, the idea of human survival amid zombie apocalypse is only expanding, making way for more spin-offs. Here is a list of all The Walking Dead spin-offs that have aired and are in production.
'Torn Apart' and 'Cold Storage'
The Walking Dead Webisodes: Torn Apart and The Walking Dead Webisodes: Cold Storage are two online promotional episodes for The Walking Dead series.
Released on October 3, 2011, the first one highlighted the story of Hannah before season 1 and promoted the return of season 2.
Likewise, Cold Storage chronicled exploits of another character, Chase, before the events of seasons 1 and 2. It promoted season 3, adding more character development to the storyline. The webisode was released on October 1, 2012.
'Fear The Walking Dead'
AMC's Fear The Walking Dead isn't technically a spin-off, given it doesn't include any characters from the original series. But it definitely deserves to be on this list, for it's a prequel to The Walking Dead.
Created by Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson, the show has been running on AMC since its premiere on August 23, 2015.
It focuses on the initial outset of the virus and includes actors such as Maggie Grace, Mo Collins, Colman Domingo, Elizabeth Rodriguez, and Kim Dickens.
'The Walking Dead: World Beyond'
The Walking Dead: World Beyond, a third series within the franchise, is a spin-off set ten years after the zombie apocalypse. The post-apocalyptic drama began airing on AMC on October 4, 2020.
Created by Scott M. Gimple and Matthew Negrete, it chronicles the story of teenagers as they come of age in the apocalyptic world. The series stars Alexa Mansour, Nicolas Cantu, Aliyah Royale, and Hal Cumpston.
The second or last season of the show is slated to be released on October 3, 2021.
Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier's Spin-off
While the previously mentioned projects are already created, Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier's spinoff is in the making. Unfortunately, it doesn't even have a title yet.
On September 9, 2020, AMC announced through its official site that the show would premiere around 2023. It would focus on the fan-favorite characters, Dixon and Peletier, played by Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride.
The Rick Grimes Movies
Untitled yet based on the significant character Rick Grimes from the original series, the Grimes movie is another upcoming project. The film would be the first movie under The Walking Dead franchise.
The Talking Dead host Chris Hardwick first shared information on the film at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019. He revealed that the movie, written by Gimple, would star Lincoln as the lead.
'Tales of The Walking Dead'
Another series that's coming in The Walking Dead TV universe is Tales of The Walking Dead.
As per AMC's announcement, the show will be an episodic anthology series featuring old members of the original project. Channing Powell would produce the show while Gimple would develop it.
