One Tree Hill was one of the most beloved teenage dramas of the 2000s, filled with plenty of romantic relationships.

There were some couples that fans rooted for and others that made little sense to the viewers. 

But nothing could compare to Nathan Scott and Haley James's love story. Scott and James were portrayed by James Lafferty and Bethany Joy Lenz, respectively.

Fans couldn't get enough of the couple and lovingly called them "Naley."

They were invested in every moment the two shared, from the kiss in the rain to the breakups and make-ups.

Scott was the popular kid at Tree Hill High and the star of the basketball team. 

And as his grades deteriorated, he needed a tutor, and that responsibility landed on James, a straight-A student's shoulders. 

They ended up falling in love, and by the end of season one, they were married.

Over the course of eight seasons, Naley went through so much together, from Scott's tragic career-ending injury to a jealous former girlfriend. 

But they weathered the storm and were always and forever by each other's side.

Were James Lafferty and Bethany Joy Lenz in a Relationship?

The chemistry between Lafferty and Lenz was undeniable.

Fans hoped the passion would transfer off-screen, but unfortunately, nothing happened between the duo. 

In a September 13 episode of iHeartRadio's Drama Queens podcast, Lenz opened up about whether she ever came close to having feelings for Lafferty. 

The actress explained that she and her co-star got along really well, but she never had romantic feelings for him.

"He was a lot younger than me," she said to hosts Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton. 

And as the show progressed and time went on, she and Lafferty began spending more time together. 

Lenz ended up having romantic dreams about him, which she found "interesting."

She noted the duo was making out so much on set that it was only natural it was seeping into their subconscious. 

But the actress clarified that the duo never dated, and she has no regrets. 

And according to her, it is also what kept their chemistry alive for so long. 

James Lafferty and Bethany Joy Lenz' Dating History

While Lafferty and Lenz didn't find love in each other, they found it in someone else.

Lafferty briefly Bush during the filming of the teen series. He then dated Eve Hewson from 2010 to 2015. 

But a year later, in 2016, Lafferty finally met the lady who made him settle down. 

He was directing a few episodes of The Royals in which Alexandra Park was one of the stars. 

The duo began dating, but the notoriously private stars did not go public with their relationship until 2018. 

In September 2020, they got engaged. 

As for Lenz, she got married to Michael Galeotti in 2005 and welcomed a daughter in 2011.

But in 2012, they filed for divorce. Following the divorce, the actress was dating UnReal alum Josh Kelly.

However, it is unconfirmed if they are still together or not.
