'Love at first sight' sounds like something right out of a fairy tale. It does happen, but unfortunately, sometimes it does not last.

The same happened with Benjamin Bratt and Julia Roberts. The two were the "it couple" in the late 90s,' but in 2001, they split, leaving their fans disheartened.

Their romance and relationship were a whirlwind, and here is everything we know about them.

Benjamin Bratt and Julia Roberts

The two first met each other in 1997, where Roberts experienced love at first sight. In an interview with Vanity Fair in 1999, she confessed they bumped into each other at a restaurant.

But once she looked up at him, she said, "it was like something hit me over the head with a bat." However, they did not talk to each other that night.

Soon enough, Bratt and Roberts started dating. They were often photographed together in posh restaurants of Manhattan, which became the highlight of their relationship.

Roberts defined the duo as "sickening" while they were together. She confessed to Oprah Winfrey in 2000 that the couple was drunk with joy and were just "ecstatically happy."

Speaking to InStyle, she gushed about her partner and said that he was "very good-looking, and his handsomeness pales in comparison to his kindness."

She even went on to say that Bratt was everything a girl could ask for. It was obvious that Roberts was deeply in love with her boyfriend.

Unfortunately, the same could not be said for Bratt. He was reluctant to talk about his girlfriend, but he did say that what he had to say about Roberts "couldn't possibly fit into one or two sentences."

He also added the Notting Hill star was "an incredible woman." He confessed that their relationship worked because they balanced it by "keeping it real."

Benjamin Bratt and Julia Roberts' Nasty Split

Bratt and Roberts' relationship, what people thought was meant forever, came to a nasty split in 2001. The two parted ways after dating for almost four years.

It was confirmed by Bratt's spokesperson, Ina Trakiosis, who said that the couple had parted ways for good. Their split made headlines and was reported a lot.

Neither of the parties gave a reason for their split. However, ABC News reported that the duo parted ways because Bratt was jealous of a Roberts attention to her co-star, George Clooney

Similarly, it was also reported that Roberts was having difficulty dealing with the "boot" she had gotten with Bratt.

While talking to David Letterman, she later confessed that their relationship had to come to a "kind and tenderhearted end." She also accused the media of not handling their mutual split and making it "messy and ugly."

Regardless of the breakup, the star said she loved Bratt, and he was a good man. Bratt later talked about their split with Vanity Fair in 2002.

He admitted he did not enjoy the attention their relationship got. However, he was not "naïve" and knew that their relationship would get attention.

But the level of visibility did not appeal to him at all. Roberts moved on with Daniel Mordor, who she met in the set of The Mexican.

They two tied the knot in 2002 and currently share three kids, twins Hazel and Phinnaeus and son Henry. On the other hand, Bratt met Talisa Soto and got married to her in 2002 as well.

The couple shares two children, Sophia and Matteo.
