American journalist Forrest Sawyer couldn’t have wished for a better career than he has managed to attain thus far. He also seemed to have found peace with his actress wife and a daughter, now that he’s approaching the twilight of his career.  

The 69-year-old Floridian first made a name for himself as an anchor of The CBS Morning News. Recipient of seven National Emmy Awards, the veteran journalist is also the founder of an award-winning documentary production company called FreeFall Productions. His brief stint at acting further helped boost his extensive catalog.

Forrest was born on 19 April 1949 in Lakeland, Florida as Forrest DeWitt Sawyer.

After graduating from high school, he enrolled in the B.A. programme at the University of Florida in Gainesville to study Eastern philosophy and world religions. Five years later earning his bachelor's degree, he received a master’s degree in Education from the same university in 1976.

The 69-year-old began his broadcasting career from the radio station, working at various stations across the country, including WGST News radio in Atlanta, WDVH-AM in Gainesville, and WVBF-FM in Boston.

Brief Detour Of Forrest Sawyer's Illustrious Career

From August 1985 to August 1986, Forrest was an anchor of The CBS Morning News. Later he left the show and joined ABC in 1988 as anchorman of ABC World News This Morning. He covered numerous exclusives on virtually every continent during his career in ABC and earned several awards.

After working for 11-years, he left ABC News in 1999 to become a news broadcaster for both NBC and its cable counterpart, MSNBC. Forrest was a regular substitute for Brian Williams as an anchor for ‘The News with Brian Williams.’ 

But again, Forrest left NBC News in 2005 to become a founder and president of Freefall Productions, where he produced documentaries and served as a media strategist and guest lecturer.

Since there are no public records as to how much net worth the 69-year-old veteran journalist possesses, if one were to make a blind guess, it would be somewhere in the eight figures line. His actress wife, on the other hand, has amassed a net worth of $7 million.

Forrest Sawyer Is Married To Actress Wife & Parent To Mystery Daughter

Forrest is happily married to actress, Amy Atkins.

His wife, Amy has three acting credits, namely: The Opposite of Sex(1998), City Hall(1996) and It Could Happen to You(1994). She has also made a series of TV appearances on various shows including The Daily Show(1998) and Henry Thomas(1998). 

They have one beautiful daughter together. Names and whereabouts of their daughter remain a mystery though.

Forrest has maintained a low-key personal life, having made very few public appearances alongside his wife.

One of the rare public sightings of them together came on 1 April 2006 when Forrest and his wife Amy were spotted together during New York Reception organized at All Souls Unitarian Church in New York City.
