MyKayla Skinner is an artistic gymnast who has been performing since 2011. She is also an Olympic athlete who competed in the 2016 Olympics and will compete for the last time in the Tokyo Olympics. 

She is well known for her exceptional talent on vault and floor. Skinner has been representing the USA in World Championships since 2012 and has also won a couple of accolades for her country. 

Her friends and family are her biggest supporters. However, amongst them, the one person who has been with her through thick and thin is her husband, Jonas Harmer.

Skinner and Harmer have the most adorable relationship. She constantly uploads pictures with her beau and shares her love story on Instagram. 

Not much is known about how the duo met each other and started dating. But, according to Skinner’s Instagram, she got into a relationship with “sweet, handsome, funny, charming, loving” Harmer on November 20, 2017.

The rooftop was beautified with a blanket surrounded by red rose petals. On the side, Harmer kept a letter board with a personalized message adorned with hearts for his future wife. 

The pair could not wait to get married. After just two days of being engaged, they announced they would get married the following month, November 14, 2019. 

They had their wedding ceremony at the Gilbert Arizona Temple, in front of their friends and family. Skinner looked beautiful as ever in her white gown with a train, while Harmer looked dashing in his maroon tuxedo with sneakers. 

On November 14, 2020, Skinner took to Instagram to wish her husband a happy anniversary. She gushed about how she felt like she lived in a dream and could not wait to spend the upcoming years with Harmer. 

Skinner and Harmer do not have a child of their own yet. However, they have a cat named Melo, a Bengal kitten, which they treat as their kid. Melo even has an Instagram of her own under the handle @melothebluebengal.

They have their YouTube channel named MyKayla Skinner, where the gymnast usually vlogs her training sessions. Harmer often collaborates with her on her videos as well.  

Harmer has a flourishing c of his own. He has been working as a sales manager for Vivint Smart since March 2019. He is also involved in day trade cryptocurrency. 

MyKayla Skinner Is Retiring after Olympics 2020

Skinner made it to the National team when she ranked ninth on uneven bars, eleventh on floor exercise, sixteenth on balancing beam, and finished second on vault at the 2021 National Championships. 

Because of her outstanding performance, Skinner qualified for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Team Trials, where she finished fifth in the all-around. As a result, Skinner was selected to represent the USA in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. 

Along with Skinner, the official six athletes representing Team USA in Tokyo are Simone Biles, Jade Carey, Jordan Chiles, Grace McCallum, and Sunisa Lee. Biles, Lee, Chiles, and McCallum will compete in the team events, whereas Skinner and Carey in the individual apparatus events.

On July 3, 2021, Skinner took to her Instagram to announce that she would say goodbye to gymnastics after the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The gymnast revealed she would not compete in the NCAA after the Olympics as she is turning pro. 

Skinner further opened up on how grateful she was for everything she had achieved at the Utah Gymnastics. However, she iterated that if she were to continue only as a college athlete, she would never advance further in her career.

So, she will only return to the University of Utah to complete her degree, not to compete. Lastly, Skinner mentioned she was very excited to represent her country in the anticipated event and hopes to bring home a medal or two. 

The 2020 Summer Olympic Games is being conducted in Tokyo, Japan. (July 23 — August 8, 2021). 

Tokyo Olympics 2020

At the Tokyo Olympics, Skinner competed as an individual and not a part of the USA team. With a total score of 55.398, she placed 10th in the all-around. As a result, she did not qualify for the final event.

Biles recently announced her withdrawal from the Tokyo Olympic finals citing mental health issues. She has received overwhelming support for her decision to put her well-being and health first. 

Biles has been replaced by Jade Carey in the all-around final. We wish them all the luck.
