Australian model and actress Gemma Ward's first love got a miserable end after the death of her then-boyfriend. Moving onwards from the past, she found herself a perfect partner with whom she started an adorable family. 

The Perth native is best known for the role of Jackie Masters in the 2008 Australian comedy-drama movie, The Black Balloon. She is also a runway model, who has appeared in top-rated fashion events.

Gemma made her debut as a fashion model at the Australian Fashion Week in 2003. Standing at the height of 1.78 meters (5 feet 8 inches), and a possessing a fragile, unique look, Gemma quickly established her as one of the most promising models in the early millennium.

Her stocks rose further when she became the youngest model to appear on fashion and lifestyle magazine, Vogue at the age of 16 in 2004.

After 2004, she has appeared in the cover page of the various editions of Vogue inside and outside the country. Despite her successful modeling career, she retired from the runway that year amid talk that she had gained too much weight.

After quitting modeling, she tried her hands in acting and gained success in that too. In 2008, she appeared in a movie, The Black Balloon, for which she was twice nominated for the Best Actress award in that year.

She portrayed the character of a Languid girl in the 2013 Oscar winning romance drama film, The Great Gatsby. She has also been featured in a music video of American singer, John Mayer's song, Daughters.

The model-turned-actress was born as Gemma Louise Ward on 3 November 1987 to Australian doctor father, Gary, and an English nurse, Claire Ward. She has a sister named Sophie and twin brothers, Oscar and Henry. She received her primary education at the Presbyterian Ladies' College and Shenton College.

Unlike her successful professional life, her love life had a tragic ending. She was dating The Dark Knight fame actor Heath Ledger in 2007.

The couple first met NewYork at their struggling phase in November that year. They spent the Christmas in Perth, which was their last Christmas celebration. Less than a month later, Heath died on 22 January 2008.

Despite Health Ledger's death, the memory of her then-boyfriend still lives in the heart of Australian beauty. Gemma recalled about their relationship in 2015 to WHO magazine and said she tried to reflect on Heath Ledger from time to time and also sent him prayers.

Moreover, in 2011 she had confessed that the loss of Heath Ledger had impacted in her career. However, she has tried to move on from the terrible story and is relishing a new love life with her partner and the two adorable kids.

Gemma was living a nomadic life after the death of her boyfriend Heath Ledger and trekking between the mountains of US and Nepal when she met with photographer David Letts.

David provided her with solace during her tough times and acted as a support to her which gradually turned towards a feeling of mutual affection. The duo started dating in early 2012.  

Although she and her boyfriend, David, haven't gotten married yet, he has been acting as her husband anyways. At one time during her career, he was her Instagram husband, taking care of her Instagram account by posting pictures of her.

Gemma and her partner, David welcomed their first child as a daughter named Naia in December 2013. After four years, she gave birth to a son in January 2017.

Addicted To Food, Not Obsessed With Weight Gain

Gemma opened about her addiction towards food during her pregnancy period in 2015. She was worried about weight gain which might impede her career. However, she admitted that she is not so obsessed with her body image and sees her career in a different light.

Whatever the case, she is now a responsible mother of her two children and shares regular glimpses of her family life with her followers.

Since 2012, she has been keeping herself out of the eyes of the paparazzi and out of news from the tabloids being a mother. One of the biggest things she did for her daughter was to move to New York where she enrolled her daughter to a more permanent school differing from the one she had been attending at Montessori in Australia before that.

Similarly, her partner, David is also a great father to the family. Though the couple is yet to tie the wedding knot, their blissful family life is as equivalent as the married life so far.
