However, the bar owner made an exception speaking to French Morning in 2014; explaining his dislike for popularity- which is why he chose to keep his relationship with Anderson Cooper private. He said,

I understand that it interests people, but it doesn't interest me. Like most people, I never really thought about it, and I never wanted to be a celebrity. I knew I’d have to be careful right from the start before it had a chance to get out of hand. 

Despite the dynamics of the relationship that favored both of them, their relationship, unfortunately, couldn't survive.

On 15 March 2018, Anderson Cooper confirmed that his split with his longtime partner, Benjamin Maisani after spending nine years together. Cooper, 50, said in a statement to Us on Thursday, March 15.

Benjamin and I separated as boyfriends some time ago. We are still family to each other, and love each other very much. We remain the best of friends, and will continue to share much of our lives together.

Although neither of the partners cited as to why they split with each other, there have been several speculations that despite loving each other very much, they wanted different things out of life and their relationships.

Like the majority of the people who go through a similar phase, that might be the similar and unfortunate fate the pair suffered.

Although the duo didn’t have any children during their time together, it’s well known that Cooper was open to the idea of having kids and getting married with Maisani. Cooper’s mother, Gloria Vanderbilt, also wanted grandchildren from her son.

Though there aren't many reasons for the pair breaking up, this speculated reason seems to have some certain validity on it. With that said, it's just speculations; only Benjamin and Cooper know why they decided to split.
