Born on 29 December 1967, Ashleigh Dennistoun Banfield was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba by parents, Suzanne Holland and John Alexander Banfield.
The 50-year-old television journalist attended the private university preparatory school, Balmoral Hall School in 1985. Ashleigh continued her studies in French at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, British Columbia and graduated in 1992.
The 5 feet 8 inches (1.78 meters) tall host eventually went to achieve a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and political science from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario in 1988.
Ashleigh started her career at CJBN-TV and CKY-TV in Winnipeg in 1988 and eventually worked as a freelance associate producer for ABC’s World News Tonight. In early 2000, Ashleigh was hired by MSNBC and eventually started hosting HomePage with Gina Gaston and Mika Brzezinski.
It wasn’t long before Ashleigh joined TruTV in 2005 and co-hosted the trial coverage show Banfield & Ford: Courtside weekdays alongside Jack Ford. In June 2009, Ashleigh took over as host of the series, Open Court weekdays.

It was in January 2012 when Ashleigh joined the CNN network as co-anchor with Zoraida Sambolin of the morning show, Early Start. She moved to the 11 a.m. edition of CNN Newsroom in New York each weekday while replacing Kyra Phillips as an anchor in August 2012.
It wasn’t long before Ashleigh started hosting her show, Legal View with Ashleigh Banfield that aired at noon Eastern. She has featured in a small role in the Netflix series, House of Cards.

Eventually, Ashleigh joined CNN sister station, HLN as the host on the legal issues interview program, Primetime Justice with Ashleigh Banfield that airs every Monday to Thursday. In December 2017, the show got re-branded as Crime & Justice with Ashleigh Banfield.

Ashleigh has got two sons, Jay Fischer Gould and Ridley Banfield Gould, from her first husband and Chris adores the kids as his own.
After dating for two years, Chris got down on one knee in August 2016 when they were on vacation in Ontario, Canada with Ashleigh’s two sons. And Ashleigh didn’t take a moment to accept the proposal.

The two got married in December 2017 at the Hermitage Club ski lodge in Wilmington, Vermont. The wedding was a total surprise for the guests who thought they were attending Ashleigh’s birthday party.
