ABC's The Good Doctor has won audiences' hearts for a long time. Since the show first aired in September 2017, it has managed to get consistently good ratings and feedback from the viewers despite changes in the show.

One of the inevitable changes in show business is in the casting department. The Good Doctor, like every other show, has gone through many cast reshuffles over the years.

Similar is the case for 2022, as the show enters its sixth season. There are rumors about a couple of departures for season six, with only one confirmed.

Who Is Leaving The Good Doctor in 2022?

Let's start with the one that has been confirmed.

Osvaldo Benavides, who portrayed Dr. Mateo Rendón Osma in the show, left the show in 2022. His departure was technically a 2021 thing, but since the show's season five ended in May 2022, it could be counted as a 2022 departure.

Benavides's first appearance on the show came in the season four finale as a local surgeon when Freddie Highmore's Shaun Murphy and the team fly to Guatemala on a mission. Then, he developed a connection with Christina Chang's character, Dr. Audrey Lim.

After season four, Antonia Thomas, who played Dr. Claire Browne, departed, making room for Benavides to become a series regular. Osma came to San Jose to pursue a romantic relationship with Lim in the season five opener.

Lim hired Osma as a probationary at St. Bonaventure. As the season progressed, there were doubts over the character's future at the hospital because of his past legal issues.

TVLine was the first to report on Benavides's exit from the show. At the time, neither Sony Pictures Television nor ABC and Benavides made statements about the departure.

Who Might Leave The Good Doctor in 2022

Talking about Benavides's departure and his character's romance with Chang's makes for a nice segue to mention another potential exit — Christina Chang.

The season five finale left everyone wondering about Chang's future on the show.

In the finale, Lim was attacked and stabbed while trying to help a fellow character, Villanueva. The episode ended with that, leaving everyone to wonder whether someone would find the wounded doctor in time.

The show is not a stranger to dramatic, abrupt cast departures, and this could very well be the last time we see Chang on the show as Lim could die of her injuries. However, it also could not be.

With season six filming already underway without any airing dates set, it will be a long wait for everyone.

Another character who is at a crossroads in her career on the show is Dr. Morgan Reznick, played by Fiona Gubelmann. In the season five finale, Reznick got a mind-blowing career offer that could take her away from St. Bonaventure and to New York.

The Executive Producer of the show, David Shore, put everyone's minds a bit at ease about this in May 2022. While talking to TVLine, he said that while the show would not immediately lose Gubelmann, Reznick's career decision could have big effect on her relationship with her boyfriend Dr. Alex Park.

If Reznick takes the New York job, and if Park goes with her, the show could lose two characters in no time, and two cast members.

All these rumors just add to the existing speculations about Richard Schiff's possible exit from the show.
