Tom Green was at his peak in the 90s and early 2000s with his career. He had his own show, The Tom Green Show, with MTV and made his directorial debut with Freddy Got Fingered.

Similarly, he had starred in an array of movies like Charlie's Angels, Shred, and Stealing Harvard. He was also married to Drew Barrymore from July 7, 2001, to October 15, 2002.

However, between his MTV shows and starring in movies, the actor made very few appearances in the early 2000s. This made many people wonder, "what happened to Tom Green?"

Unfortunately, he was dealing with some serious health issues back then.

What Happened to Tom Green?

Green was diagnosed with testicular cancer in March 2000. When he realized he was showing symptoms of the disease, he kept it to himself and did not tell anyone.

He sought medical help for a consult and did a minor surgery. But after he was diagnosed with testicular cancer, he removed the cancerous testes.

The doctors needed to learn if the cancer cells had spread or not. Therefore, they suggested Green remove his lymph nodes to learn about the spread.

Removing the lymph nodes was a serious surgery that would make him bed-ridden for many days. It was then that the actor decided to tell the world about his cancer.

He told ABC News in a December 2000 interview that he was "really stressed out and scared and upset." His friends were with him at his house when he made the decision.

They believed that a show surrounding his condition would raise awareness and help people with testicular cancer. As a result, he released an hour-long MTV special, The Tom Green Cancer Special, on May 23, 2000.

The hospital where the actor had his surgery allowed cameras inside to film the procedure. The MTV special featured graphic footage of the surgery.

Green was widely appreciated for sharing his rough journey with his fans and followers. Thankfully, his cancer had not spread, and he fully recovered.

In a 2017 interview with Vulture, the actor shared the aftermath of cancer and surgery. He said he does not talk a lot about it since he had the surgery more than a decade ago.

However, he said that it took him almost ten years to recover. He was in a lot of pain, and hormonal readjustment took a toll on him.

He admitted it took him a while to get to where he was at the moment. Regardless of it all, he clarified that he was happy and comfortable with who he was.

What Is Tom Green Doing Now?

After his successful surgery, Green starred in a couple of movies and series. Some are Grind, Sweet Baby Jesus, Iron Sky: The Coming Race, Celebrity Big Brother 2 (USA), and Interviewing Monsters and Bigfoot.

Green is currently more into YouTube and vlogging than focusing on movies and series. He has a channel named after him with over 296K subscribers.

He uploads around five to eight videos per month and shares his journey and dog Charlie with his followers. He recently reunited with Barrymore after not seeing each other for 15 years.

He was a special guest at The Drew Barrymore Show in September 2020, where they recalled and celebrated their moments together.
