NBC’s new family game show Family Game Fight! will premiere on August 8 at 10:30 PM ET, immediately after the Olympics Closing Ceremony. Here are five things you should know about Family Game Fight!

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard Will Host and Compete

Family Game Fight! is being hosted by Kristen Bell and her husband Dax Shepard. The couple had previously worked together in movies and series like Chips, When In Rome, Hit and Run, The Boss, Veronica Mars, and The Good Place.

However, this is the first time Bell and Shepard are teaming up for a TV project. The two will not only host Family Game Fight! but also compete against each other.

The game show will see Bell and Shepard adopted into a family of four and compete against each other to win their new family the cash prize of $100,000.

It Is Inspired by Taste Buds from ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’

Family Game Fight! is inspired by Bell and Shepard’s time playing Taste Buds on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

In Taste Buds, the married couple had to eat a food blindfolded and describe it to their partner. For every answer they got right, Shutterfly would donate $1,000 to the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

DeGeneres will serve as an executive producer on Family Game Fight! along with Bell and Shepard.

Viewers Aren’t the Only Ones Excited for the Show

Bell fell in love with Shepard when she invited him to a game night at her house. For this reason, she and her husband have both expressed their excitement for the show and many viewers are eager for it to come out.

But they aren’t the only ones excited for the show. Jenny Groom, executive vice president of unscripted content at NBCUniversal, revealed to Variety that her network was looking forward to the project too.

The Casting For the Show

Though the game show is called Family Game Fight!, the people taking part in the show do not have to be a biological family. According to the casting page for the upcoming show on the Ellentube website, they are looking for all combinations of families, friends, and co-workers.

‘Family Game Fight!’ Replacing ‘Ultimate Slip ‘N Slide’

Originally, Ultimate Slip ‘N Slide hosted by Ron Funches and Bobby Moynihan was supposed to premiere right after the Olympics Closing Ceremony.

However, Ultimate Slip ‘N Slide has been pulled from the schedule after production for the show was paused because of an outbreak of giardia, an intestinal infection, among staff.

As for Family Game Fight!, it was slated for its first episode on August 11 but has now taken Ultimate Slip ‘N Slide’s spot as the latter still has no new premiere date on sight.
