Who Is Lupita Nyong’o’s Boyfriend? Is She Dating Jared Leto?

Lupita Nyong'o's boyfriend and dating status have always been a matter of curiosity for her loyal fans. An obvious reason for the burning interest is that her personal life is kept away from the limelight.

Having said that, the 12 Years a Slave actress has been linked with multiple high-profile celebrities throughout her career. 

Is Jared Leto Lupita Nyong'o's Boyfriend?

Michael B. Jordan, Michael Fassbender, and even Janelle Monae are some celebrities romantically linked with Nyong'o.

But the person whose name comes at the top of the list is Morbius actor Jared Leto. The duo has been rumored to be an item since 2014.

The speculations spurred after Leto called the actress his "future ex-wife" while accepting an award for his role in Dallas Buyers Club at the Independent Spirit Awards on March 1, 2014.

Following the flirty statement, the Oscar-winning actress addressed the rumors on a 2014 episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

She said she found the gossip "crazy cause when I read these rumors, they're so detailed."

Nevertheless, Nyong'o played along with the rumors and shared that she thought Miley Cyrus had broken them apart. "That was the last thing I heard," she jokingly added. 

Nyong'o and her rumored boyfriend again made headlines almost a year after the interview. This time, they had a close encounter at the afterparty of the SAG Awards held at Sunset Tower in January 2015. 

The duo was reportedly dancing, whispering, and laughing together while looking cozy during the reunion. However, nothing substantial surfaced after the dating rumors. 

Instead, Nyong'o refuted all claims during an interview with PorterEdit (via People) in 2019. 

The 38-year-old confessed they had bonded after their Oscar journey, and he was on her speed dial.

She also admitted they had an intimacy but clarified that it was "beyond the dating rumors."

Is Lupita Nyong'o Married?

With her ascending age, Nyong'o does face the pressure to get married, have a husband, and have kids. 

In an interview with Vogue in September 2015, she recalled her recent visit to her home country, Kenya.

And as per her accounts, she was driving around with her mother when her mom pointed out a school and stated it was suitable for children.

Nyong'o implied that her parents, especially her mother Dorothy, wanted her to have a husband and children. 

But she remarked that it "will all be determined when I have that moment." Nyong'o noted she would consider having kids only after having a man worthy of being her husband. 

As of this writing, Nyong'o seemingly hasn't found a perfect partner. Her socials are void of any information about her boyfriend or dating life.

Her only confirmed relationship that has ever made it to the internet is with Somali-Canadian rapper K'naan. The duo was reportedly dating in 2014.

After Nyong'o won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, they were spotted celebrating the milestone together. Her boyfriend even posed for pictures with her statuette a day after the event. 

However, their relationship ended the same year, and neither of them revealed the reason behind their split.
