The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot titled Bel-Air is coming to Peacock on February 13, 2022.

The reimagining of the iconic show has many fresh faces filling in the shoes of some of the most loved characters from the 90s.

Jabari Banks is playing Will, the protagonist. As for Will’s best friend, Jazz, the role is being played by actor Jordan L. Jones.

Jazz was originally played by DJ Jazzy Jones, who was also Will Smith's musical partner.

Jones was a huge fan of the original shows and spoke to Variety about the moment when he found out he landed the role.

The actor revealed his agents informed him of the good news by singing the theme song of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. “They just called me and went, ‘In West Philadelphia, born and raised…’ And I just started crying.”

Jones described the moment as being “surreal,” and added he couldn’t believe it. “I just started crying with my mom and my agents. I still feel like I’m dreaming.”

Jones shared playing Jazz in the show was a huge thing for him, especially because landing roles aren’t certain in the industry. And when he got the role, it felt like his hard work had paid off.

Furthermore, he said he really loved the role after reading the script.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air helped launch Will Smith’s successful career. However, it wouldn’t have been possible without DJ Jazzy Jeff, the other half of the music duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince.

Jeff also played Jazz, Will’s best friend, on the sitcom.

Many original members of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air are involved in the making of the reboot.

Will Smith served as an executive producer and personally broke the news to Jabari Banks that the latter was leading the show.

Similarly, Jeff also acknowledged Jones as the new Jazz after watching his audition tape.

“I know I’m good but he’s [DJ Jazzy Jeff] like, ‘Oh yeah, that’s good. He’s Jazz.’ It is incredible,” Jones shared.

The actor further revealed that when he met Jeff for the first time, he just hugged him for “like two minutes.”

Jones described the entire experience of being in the show as “special” and the cast as “warm.”

He shared he was close with Banks, who plays Will, and Simone Joy Jones, who plays Lisa. He even hangs out with them often.

Jones loved working on it so much that he visited the set even when he wasn’t working.

“I come to set when I’m not working. And when you come to work when you’re not supposed to work, that means it ain’t work. That’s love,” he said.

The show is based on the 4-minute trailer made by Morgan Cooper which reimagined the original sitcom as a drama series.

The trailer went viral and Peacock picked up the show for two seasons in September 2020.

Cooper co-wrote and directed the show while also serving as a co-executive producer. T.J. Brady and Rasheed Newson are co-showrunners and executive producers, as well as Cooper’s co-writers.
