HBO Max’s ‘The Prince’ Sees Orlando Bloom Parody Friend Prince Harry with Biting Satire
HBO Max's most anticipated animated series of all time, The Prince, will be released on the streaming service on July 29, 2021, at midnight. Just a day before, HBO Max dropped the trailer for the show, giving an insight into the biting satire on the British royal family.
Among the many royal family members, Prince Harry, voiced by actor and his friend, Orlando Bloom, was heavily mocked in the trailer.
The clip saw Harry and Meghan Markle's cartoon arriving in the United States after stepping down from their senior royal roles. They view an apartment in Hollywood, and Harry comically comments about how it was the "smallest palace" he had ever been in.
Markle tries to correct him by saying, "Well, it's an apartment." But the prince quickly replies, "Yes, an apartment palace, I know that," He even adds, "Lots of tiny palaces inside one big palace."
While the man behind Harry's character, Bloom, leaves no stone unturned to stay true to the script and bring forward the parody, he intends no mockery in real life.
Orlando Bloom and Prince Harry Are Friends
When Bloom started filming for The Prince following his fiancée Katy Perry's suggestion to be the part of the genius show, he wasn't friends with Harry. He had just met him once and found him to be nice, with a great sense of humor.
Though not friends, the Pirates of the Caribbean star talked about his role with The Hollywood Reporter on August 8, 2020, and shared how he would never poke fun at anyone normally. He also clarified that the parody show was a way to show adoration to the royals.
Then, mentioning his character, he stated he would inform Harry himself about his role.
I'm going to have to mention it to Prince Harry when I next see him, because I'm not going to be able to not.
It is not sure if Bloom talked about the new show with Harry, but they ended up as neighbors and friends after Harry and Meghan settled down in their $14 million mansion in Montecito, California.
The Star-Studded Cast Of 'The Prince'
Alongside Bloom, the regular voice cast of The Prince includes American Condola Rashad as Meghan Markle, Sophie Turner as Charlotte, Frances de la Tour as Queen Elizabeth, Tom Hollander as Prince Philip and Prince Charles.
Also, Lucy Punch as Kate Middleton, Iwan Rheon as Prince William, and Alan Cumming as Prince George's butler.
The animated satire will also have guest voice dubs from Andy Cohen, Brad Goreski, and Kelly Ripa.
Gary Janetti, the show's creator, will provide his voice for the production's titular character Prince George. Its premise will revolve around a cartooned 6-year-old Prince George of Cambridge and the British royals from his eyes.
The series will chronicle George's trials and tribulations as a royal member and the youngest heir to the British throne.
The satirical take became extant based on Janetti's famous Instagram, where he made parodies of the British family and introduced George's character.
The 12-episode long toon series was scheduled to debut on May 2021, but the death of Prince Philip delayed the release date.
