Camilla Luddington's husband, Matthew Alan, has always been supportive of her acting career. Still, her on-screen wedding with another man on Grey's Anatomy once made him green with envy.

Luddington, who plays Josephine "Jo" Wilson, married her on-screen beau Alex Karev, played by Justin Chambers, on the 24th episode of season 14.

Soon after the reel wedding, the 37-year-old became candid on how her husband reacted to the scene during an interview with ET Online in September 2018. "It was weird," she recounted before revealing Alan wished her luck for the marriage.

Luddington then clarified that her husband, being an actor himself, understood the scenario. In fact, he visited her during the shoot and was in awe of the wedding set, constructed at the Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, California. 

The Grey's Anatomy actress recalled how they joked they should sneak on the set and get done with the wedding ceremony there and then.

Moments after recalling her husband's reaction, Luddington gushed about how she was conscious of the on-screen ceremony. She wanted her real-life and on-screen weddings to be entirely different.

So Luddington made sure she avoided dresses she would want in real life and set her boundaries to make the on-screen and off-screen ceremony distinct.

Luddington and Alan's blissful relationship started after they met in the late 2000s while working at the same restaurant in Los Angeles. After dating for almost a decade, the lovebirds welcomed their first child, daughter Hayden, in April 2017.

They got engaged on 2018 New Year's Eve. And a year later, they tied the knot in an intimate California coastline ceremony in Santa Barbara. Only 70 of the pair's closest family members and friends attended the wedding, officiated by their close friend Shawn Aly.

Luddington donned a Mira Zwillinger's white couture gown with handmade embroidery, while her partner wore a black suit. 

"Seeing him for the first time was amazing. We both just couldn't stop staring at each other and smiling," the Ascot native shared with People on August 21, 2019. 

She also expressed her happiness, stating she felt so much euphoria when going through her vows. "I think I practically yelled them," she added. 

She Welcomed Second Child with Husband in 2020

A year after the wedding, Luddington and her partner-in-crime welcomed their second child, son Lucas Matthew, in August 2020. 

"After what felt like a year long third trimester... it finally happened!!" the mother-of-two wrote, announcing the birth of their baby boy through an Instagram post on August 25, 2020. 

She also stated that she and her husband were elated to have a son in their family. That being said, the pregnancy wasn't as easy as Luddington expected. 

"I absolutely had more daily anxiety," Luddington told People, sharing that the pandemic added stress to her pregnancy. She also disclosed that her husband wasn't allowed in the delivery room because of the COVID-19 protocols.

And to top it all off, she had to wear a mask in labor. "I just dreaded it," she remarked while admitting she understood the importance of wearing the mask.
