Alfonso Ribeiro Says Black Community Doesn’t Fully Support His Beautiful Mixed Family with Wife and Four Children
Alfonso Ribeiro and his wife Angela Unkrich tackled all issues that could have affected their relationship — their age difference of almost a decade, differing races, and Ribeiro's past relationship.
When he started dating Unkrich, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star had already been through a divorce with his first wife, Robin Stapler. His unfortunate past, however, didn't affect the bond he had created with his new muse. So much so, the pair went on to marry and have children.
While Ribeiro found his family bliss with his wife, the only thing that saddens him is that his black community doesn't support his mixed family. Here's all that you should know.
Alfonso Ribeiro and Wife Angela Unkrich's Marriage
The veteran actor and Unkrich met at a hotel in Beverly Hills in 2011. Ribeiro made the first move, introducing himself to his future partner and befriending her.
Soon after, the pair started dating and took their relationship forward, one step at a time. On July 17, 2012, Ribeiro proposed to his girlfriend beside Lake Tahoe in front of family members.
With her approval, the duo tied the knot in Burbank, California, on October 13, 2012. "Last night I got married to the most incredible woman in the world," Ribeiro wrote, announcing his wedding through a Twitter post on October 14.
About Alfonso Ribeiro's Children
A year after his wedding, Ribeiro and his wife welcomed their first child, Alfonso Lincoln Jr., in 2013. Their second son, Anders Reyn, joined the family in 2015. Then, the married couple welcomed their daughter Ava Sue in 2019.
Besides three children, the talented actor is also a father to his eldest kid, daughter Sienna Ribeiro, from his first marriage to Stapler.
The 19-year-old, born in 2003, shares a close bond with her father and stepmother. She had been attended their engagement and even the wedding.
Sienna graduated from high school in June 2021. As per Ribeiro's accounts, she aims to become an actress without being under her father's shadow.
Ribeiro on Having a Mixed Family
While Ribeiro relishes a blissful family life, he alleges that the black community doesn't accept his interracial family. In an interview with Atlanta Black Star in July 2021, the Bronx native shared he was still struggling to fit into the black society.
Ribeiro highlighted he had a mixed family with interracial kids and disclosed he got many criticisms and harsh looks. The Silver Spoons actor also mentioned how he would never be white and never be supported in the Black House.
"So I'm in my own little world with support from almost no one," he added, stating that he was left out for having a relationship with a white person.
Then, the 50-year-old explained that such conduct didn't affect him much. In addition, he shared he dealt with that scrutiny every day, implying he was habituated with such treatment.
