In March 2021, American journalist Nischelle Turner made history by being the first black woman to host the coveted chat show, Entertainment Tonight.

ET's executive producer, Erin Johnson, announced the news that Turner would host the show with Kevin Frazier. The post had been vacant for over a year after the show's previous host, Nancy O' Dell, stepped down from her role in 2019.

Turner and Frazier were the first two black anchors working together in the show's history.

Before the historic achievement, Turner served as a correspondent for the show and had bagged four Daytime Emmy Awards. She joined Entertainment Tonight in 2014.

Who Are Nischelle Turner's Parents?

Born on February 11, 1975, Turner has never shared details or even mentioned her father in an interview or social media posts. It could be, possibly, because the Columbia, Missouri native was raised by her single mother, Jacqui Turner.

She holds an adorable bond with her mother and the extended family from her mother's side, including her grandparents. Her mother, who has diabetes, always fed the homeless in their hometown. For her such humanitarian actions, Turner never can praise her enough.

In 2020 Mother's Day, through an Instagram post, she complimented her mother's good nature. She shared how her parent had helped her be kind, god-fearing and, patient.

Influenced by her mother, the journalist is also into humanitarians activities. She started the process of launching the James and Margie Turner Memorial scholarship fund that targeted at-risk youth in her hometown after being the host of ET.

She also volunteers with the Boys and Girls Club of America and mentors Brown Girls’ Dream.

Journey to Being Entertainment Tonight's host

Turner first studied at the University of Kentucky. She dropped out of the institution in her junior year and returned to her hometown.

She started studying journalism at the University of Missouri. There, she molded her career by engaging in reporting, camera work, writing, and producing news in the university-owned newsroom (NBC affiliate) KOMU-TV.

Three days before she graduated, the four-times Emmy-winning correspondent landed her first job as a reporter at WEHT ABC in Evansville, Indiana. Michael Valentine had hired her at the channel.

After serving WEHT for about a year and a half, she joined WVUE-TV FOX8 in New Orleans as a weekday reporter and anchor. One of the reporting highlights of hers at New Orleans was the Hurricane Katrina coverage.

She joined Good Day LA afterward and soon hosted a collaborative web series between the celebrity buzz show “Extra” and “Essence,” the monthly magazine for African-American women.

Admiring her excellent work at Extra on Essence, CNN offered a full-time position as a correspondent for Entertainment Tonight in 2014. And the rest is history.

However, the exact figure of Turner's salary and her net worth hasn't been disclosed yet.
