Janai Norman's dream of joining ABC News came true when she landed an anchoring gig in the media giant in October 2016. She had interned at the channel during her college days and determined to make a comeback as its member since then.
Fast forward to present, she hosts ABC News' shows such as World News Now and Good Morning America.
Her Early Life and Education
Norman was born in Durban, South Africa. She has kept the details of her birthday, age, and her parents close to her heart. That being said, she shared a picture of her mother in 2018 and shared how they were there for each other's wedding.
The television anchor graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia graduate, earning a psychology and mass communication degree.
Her Journey to ABC News
Norman's professional endeavors started from ABC News. She joined the channel in 2011 as an intern during her college.
After graduation, the news anchor initiated her career as a general assignment reporter at ABC17 News in Columbia. She held on to the job for a year and a half and moved to KOKI FOX 23 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
In November 2014, she joined WFTV-Channel 9 as a reporter for Cox Media Group and worked till August 2016.
Norman took to Facebook to announce her new job in ABC News in October 2016, sharing it was her dream to join the channel since her college days. She also disclosed that she was stationed in Washington, D.C., for reporting.
Courtesy of her skills and fine reporting, ABC News promoted her as the co-anchor of ABC's signature programs World News Now and America This Morning in November 2018. Norman also became the correspondent for ABC News.
In April 2021, she hosted ABC's special 3-hour show, Oscars Countdown, LIVE! alongside Chris Connelly.

Her Marriage and Kids
Norman has two kids from her marriage with her long-time partner. Her husband, whose name is no public knowledge, is a military police veteran. He served two tours in Afghanistan.
The pair gave birth to their first child, a son, in December 2017, eight months after getting engaged on a beach in Barcelona. They tied the knot in May 2018 in Bougainvillea, Barbados.
In April 2020, they welcomed their second child, a daughter. Norman gave birth to her baby girl via water birth technique with no medical intervention.
Sharing her experience through an Instagram post on May 1, 2020, she stated the birth was peaceful, serene, empowering, and gentle. Two midwives assisted her in the delivery process.
