What do We Know So Far?
Army of the dead is a spiritual successor to Snyder’s first film, Dawn of the Dead.
Snyder initially penned the story for the film with screenplay credit to Joby Harold, Shay Hatten, and himself.
The film was first announced for development as a sequel to 2004’s Dawn of the Dead with Universal Pictures and Warner Bros. entertainment attached to distribute. Snyder was offered a chance to direct the film following his success with Dawn of the Dead, but he turned it down in favor of 300 (2006).
After Snyder’s exit from the project, the film was kept on hold till a suitable director was found. In 2010, commercial director Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. was attached to direct with a release date of 2013, but that version also fell through.
The project was put back on ignition engine when Netflix bought the rights to the film from Warner Bros. and signed Snyder in the directorial role. Along with director duties, Snyder will also act as the producer of the movie along with his wife and long-time collaborator, Deborah Snyder.
Army of the Dead Release Date
The film started production in mid-2019 with an apparent budget of $90 million. The filming locations include Los Angeles, California, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Atlantic Club Casino Hotel in New Jersey.
