The couple had met in 1982 and started dating the same year. After four years of dating, the couple got married in 1986. And the couple was blessed with four children, who were all born between 1989 to 1997.
With a blissful life behind her husband and four children on the flanks, it seemed to the outer world that the Schwarzenegger's were enjoying their union. Moreover, they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in 2011.
The anniversary proved to be the high point of their marriage and son started going downhills.
Divorce Saga With Husband That shows No Signs Of Concluding
In 2011, once the infidelity claims of Arnold rocked the media, and he recieved a public grilling, his wife of 25 years was equally unforgiving.
Maria filed for divorce after finding out that Arnold cheated on her with their longtime housekeeper, Mildred Baena. It also came to light at that time, that Arnold fathered a child named Joseph (age 19) with Mildred.
Maria filed for divorce with her husband on 1 July 2011 citing "Irreconcilable differences" and sought for joint legal and physical custody of the couple's youngest children Patrick, who was 17 and Christopher, who was 14 at that time.
Maria seemed broken with this act of Arnold which she expressed through her statement, where she talked about how painful and heartbreaking it was to know about her husband cheating on her with another woman.
Nevertheless, she was more worried about her children. She even asked for "compassion, respect, and privacy" while the whole family tried to heal from the deception of cheating.
Talking about his act of cheating, Arnold confessed that he deserved the feeling of anger and disappointment from his friends and family. Through his statement, he apologized to his wife, children, and family taking full responsibility for the hurt he caused among the family members. He even said there is no any form of "excuses."
Right after that, Maria moved out of the family's Brentwood, LA home and later in May of 2011; the couple announced their separation.
According to some sources, Maria wanted for the divorce to be final, but Arnold had cold feet to move forward the divorce procedures and did not take necessary steps.
Moreover, few theories even stated that the two didn't sign the legal papers, as it was difficult for both the parties to walk away from $200 million; although this seems unrealistic.
Furthermore, few people added that the divorce is kept at the halt due to the religious nature of Maria and her not believing in the divorce. But it is suspected that Arnold could end up the marriage vows if he wanted.
All the fueled theories were finally driven to different heading as Maria was supposed to be dating Mathew Dowd, the political consultant for Arnold Schwarzenegger's 2006 reelection campaign in 2013.
But Arnold didn't have any contentions to leave her with a divorce regards to it as he had realized that he had broken her heart by his affairs with the other woman.
According to sources, there were hurdles along the way in molding out a settlement but, since the split is a two-way decision, there are no serious roadblocks.
In 2018, Arnold seems to be enjoying his career as he was seen sarcastically addressing Trump to take over his show. But about the relationship with Maria, he doesn't speak much and never shows interest in making the divorce final. On the other hand, Maria also enjoys her career working as a co-anchor on Today's Show. And to the relationship with Arnold, she's bit waffled. Sometimes, she tempts to get rid of him for forever, but most of the times she calls it off.
The couple was also spotted with their own love interests, which, to some extent, helps their separation facts and that they'll never be back together. But, when the push comes down to the shovel, Both seems to be not willing to pull the trigger.
