Jackass star Bam Margera is living happily with his wife Nicole Boyd and son Phoenix Wolf Margera. The family of three look happy together and they often share some of their moments on social media.

But Margera’s family wasn’t always so happy. For a long time, he had been struggling with alcohol and substance abuse, and his addiction was tearing his family apart.

The MTV star claimed he had seen 28 doctors and shuffled through 4 rehabs with no result and asked Dr. Phil for help.

Margera and Boyd visited Dr. Phil for a taping of an August 2019 episode where he recounted several incidents and problems in their tumultuous relationship.

The three sat down for a three-hour-long session and were joined by Margera’s mother, April Margera, for some time.

Before the taping, when Margera asked Dr. Phil for help, he had claimed he was ready to listen to whatever the doctor said. After the session, he went on his 5th rehab at the TV personality’s behest.

Margera And Boyd’s Marriage

Margera and Boyd tied the knot on October 5, 2013, in a rock n roll themed ceremony during the Random Hero Festival in Reykjavik, Iceland.

Like much of his career as a Jackass star, his choice for his wedding costume was unconventional — a black hoodie and shades.

Following Margera’s close friend Ryan Dunn’s death in 2011, the stunt performer’s reliance on alcohol had exacerbated, and he was seen throwing a drunken fit multiple times.

He had a similar incident back in 2009 when he was hospitalized for binge drinking over a duration of multiple days.

His struggle with alcohol and substance abuse started creating problems in his marriage. TMZ reported Margera spent a night in a Finnish drunk tank after getting into an argument with Boyd.

The Jackass star was detained outside the Sea Horse, a landmark restaurant in Helsinki. The tabloid also reported that witnesses said things were getting heated between Margera and his wife before the police hauled him off at 11 PM.

Their relationship continued deteriorating as his problem with alcohol and drugs got worse. He asked for help from Dr. Phil via Instagram in 2019. Margera seems to be doing much better after the session and has his life back on track.

Margera’s First Marriage With Missy Rothstein

Before Margera met Boyd, he was married to model Missy Rothstein. The two exchanged vows on February 3, 2007. Their marriage was documented on the 2007 reality show, Bam’s Unholy Union.

The ceremony was completed with a performance by punk rocker Iggy Pop. Margera revealed he had to pay $13,000 for damages caused during the wedding because of the chaos that ensued after the guests got drunk.

I have $13,000 worth of damages I have to pay for… Everybody got so wasted, they started breaking light fixtures and kicking in the bathroom doors.

Margera and Rothstein’s marriage ended after six years on November 1, 2012.
