Is Valerie Bertinelli Still Married to Husband Tom Vitale? Inside Her Personal Life

Valerie Bertinelli married financial planner and entrepreneur Tom Vitale on New Year's Day in 2011. The veteran actress donned a classic pale blue silk chiffon wedding gown as she tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend at her home in Malibu. 

Shortly after the wedding, Bertinelli appeared on The View and shared that she walked down the aisle only because she wanted to call Vitale her husband. "I think I got tired of calling him 'my spousal equivalent,'" she shared on the show.

The pair had met back in 2004 through Bertinelli's brother Patrick and hit it off instantly. After six years of dating, they got engaged in March 2010.

January 2021 marked the 10th marriage anniversary for the 61-year-old and her husband. But, sadly, there seems to be no 11th anniversary. On November 24, 2021, Bertinelli reportedly filed for legal separation from her husband in Los Angeles Superior Court. 

As per the reports obtained by TMZ, the petition is not for a full-blown divorce but just separation because of reported "irreconcilable differences."

The pair has a premarital agreement to which they will be adhering, and as per court records, they aren't requesting spousal support. 

In addition, there will be no child support involved as they don't have any children together. Having said that, both of them are parents to kids from their previous relationships. 

Vitale has four kids with his ex-wife, while Bertinelli has a 30-year-old son named Wolfgang Van Halen from her first marriage. Both of them were recovering from their divorces when they first met one another. Interestingly, similar circumstances helped them bond.

"Val and I were coming from a tough time and wanting to move on but didn't want to trust anyone," the father-of-four said during an interview for AARP Magazine in 2010. He gushed about their blended family, stating, "My family is her family. It wasn't love at first sight; it was family at first sight."

Long before Bertinelli married Vitale, she was in a marital relationship with legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen.

The pair were together as spouses for 20 long years, starting from 1981. They welcomed their only son Wolfgang on March 16, 1991. But the relationship ran its course, and the pair separated in 2001. Their divorce was finalized in 2007. 

Despite the divorce, the former couple maintained a healthy relationship as parents. So much so, Eddie even attended Bertinelli and Vitale's wedding that had only 100 guests. 

Sadly, Eddied lost his battle to lung cancer and died in October 2020, at the age of 65. The television personality publicly mourned his demise and expressed her grief through an Instagram Live session in January 2021. 

In the video, she teared up as she recalled the moments from her first marriage with therapist Angie Johnsey. "You never like this new normal but that's what it is," the Delaware native said, remembering she had some "very difficult, very challenging times" but also some beautiful times with Eddie. 

Then, the mother-of-one remarked that the beauty about grief was it made beautiful moments easy to remember.
