Trae Young is one of the most promising young players in the NBA. He was ranked among the NBA top 10 in at least one statistical category in his first three seasons.

The 6'1 biracial basketball player was born on September 19, 1998, to an African-American dad, Rayford, and a Caucasian mom, Candice, in Lubbock, Texas.

How Did It Start for Trae Young?

Young started at the Norman North High School, where he got recognition for playing extraordinary basketball at that age.

He was referred to as one of the striking gods of their high school basketball team and was also named the Gatorade Player of the Year on different occasions.

Young was also ranked as the second-best point guard of the school team and ranked 15th by ESPN as a student-athlete prospect in the entire United States.

He graduated high school and got admitted to Oklahoma University as a recruited athlete. His performance with Oklahoma Sooners earned him a lot of local fans.

In 2017, Young became the only player to ever lead the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in both points and assists in a single season, before he joined the NBA Draft in 2018.

Young was recruited by the Dallas Mavericks as the fifth pick on June 21, 2018. He was later sold to the Atlanta Hawks on July 1, 2018.

Young was taught the game by his dad, who was a professional basketball player of his time.

According to the Washington Post, Young's dad, Rayford, grew up in an economically challenged household in Texas. Interior heating was a luxury and his one sweater and jeans outfit was almost like a uniform to him.

He became a promising athlete, defying the odds and playing point guard at Texas Tech in the late 1990s.

During his career, the dad of the NBA player averaged 14.1 points, 3.8 assists, and 3.2 rebounds while shooting 37.9 percent from the three-point line.

Ray spent less than a season with the Houston Rockets before he started playing in different parts of Europe, establishing himself as a professional basketball player. He played in several teams, including FC Porto in Portugal, in the 2001-02 season.

Ray is also a big reason Young got into basketball, as he always looked up to his father as an inspiration.
