Country singer Tim McGraw credits his wife Faith Hill for helping him overcome his struggles with alcoholism in the past.

During his recent interview with Esquire in August 2021, the 'Humble and Kind' singer recalled a difficult moment during his battle with alcoholism and stated he was struck with fear after waking up early to drink.

"I remember a moment when I was getting out of bed and going to the liquor cabinet and taking a big shot at 8:00 in the morning and thinking, I have to wake the kids up," McGraw said, referring to daughters Gracie, 24, Maggie, 23, and Audrey, 19, whom he shares with his wife of nearly 25 years.

He stated that particular moment made him turn immediately to Hill — one of the most successful country music artists — for help and support.

"I went straight to my wife and said, 'This is where I'm at.' I was scared," he added, recalling how in response, she "just grabbed me and hugged me and changed my life."

In addition, he shared that moment showed him love could feel so good while saying, "Was it an emotion? Was it a lifestyle? Was it an imaginary thing? But love is all of those things." He continued to acknowledge that love was also getting angry at one's partner.

Love is getting in each other’s face. Love is accepting that I’m wrong. Love is a 360 degree thing. It’s not linear.

McGraw also once told People that whiskey was his drink of choice, but he could not limit the amount he drank. That habit reached a point where it affected his relationships and even got in the way of things he wanted to accomplish in life.

But with love and support from his wife, McGraw defied his struggles with alcoholism and has been sober since 2008.

Tim McGraw Focused on Exercise

After cutting out alcohol entirely from his lifestyle, the country music singer also focused on fitness and regular exercise. In 2018, People reported that his ideal day was filled with two workouts a day, for up to two hours at a time.

"I try to work out every day," he said while stating he skipped his workout when a busy couple of days came his way. "Or I will go hard for hours knowing there will be days I don’t have a chance to work out. I try to keep it very constant."

Tim McGraw and Faith Hill's Relationship

McGraw and Hill have been together since they first met backstage at the 1994 CRS New Faces show. Two years later, they went on McGraw's tour together.

In October 1996, the couple invited friends and family to what they described as a softball game and concert in Rayville, Louisiana. But they ended up surprising everyone when they walked down the aisle.

"It was raining and stuff and we’d been on tour for a while together, and I joked around with her about getting married," McGraw remembered the moment he proposed to her.

After the wedding, the couple subsequently welcomed three daughters: Grace, Maggie, and Aubrey. The family of five currently lives in Nashville.
