William Friedkin's film adaption of The Exorcist was released in 1973. Almost five decades later, the film is still considered one of the most terrifying and disturbing cinematic experiences ever for the viewers.

With an exciting and tense narrative, compelling characterization, expertly crafted shots, and horrifying imagery, The Exorcist altered the face of horror. But what made the film powerful and memorable was the outstanding performance of Linda Blair.

Blair was only 14 when she portrayed the role of 12-year-old Regan, who was possessed by demons. The film was emotionally and physically demanding for young Blair, earning her a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination.

Linda Blair after The Exorcist

The Exorcist launched Blair's film career and made her a coveted star, but things were difficult following her early rise to success. After The Exorcist, she landed another significant role in Born Innocent and took part in the sequel to The Exorcist in 1977.

However, in late 1977, Blair was caught in a controversy that forever changed her life and career. She and several other people were arrested for cocaine use, and according to New York Times report, an estimated $3 million in cocaine was seized.

The arrest hindered Blair's career, as she was blacklisted in Hollywood. She continued to land roles, but they were nothing compared to her role in The Exorcist. Her budding career and award nominations became an object of ridicule when she was reduced to an occasional TV guest appearance.

Although her career never returned to its former glory, she continued taking a few acting jobs before she eventually founded the Linda Blair Worldheart Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating abused and abandoned animals.

And for fans who are wondering what she is up to now, Blair's passion these days is animal activism.

Linda Blair's Personal Life

As for Blair's personal life, it is unconfirmed if Blair is married or has kids. There is no news if she has a husband, but she once dated the '80s biggest star, Rick Springfield.

After The Exorcist, at 15, Blair met Springfield, 25 years of age at that time. In an interview with" Studio 10, Blair claimed they were "really quiet" about their relationship. The actress shared they did a good job keeping their relationship secret because their "relationship did not even hit the headlines."

However, it did not last long because of the scrutiny of the industry and media. Nevertheless, Blair shared she had nothing but "positive and good memories" of her time with the musician. They are friends till today thanks to their love of animals.

Both of them are advocates for Blair's welfare organizations, including Blair's Worldheart Foundation, and in September 2020, they teamed up to collect funding for neglected animals.
