American actress and producer Katie Holmes, 42, has ended her relationship with New York restauranteur and actor Emilio Vitolo Jr, 33.

A spokesperson for the actress revealed to Us Magazine, "Their relationship fizzled. They figured out they’re better off as friends. " The source also added,

"Katie and Emilio really enjoyed their time together — it just simply didn’t work out. She’s focusing on being a mom and her upcoming projects."

The pair were dating for nearly a year before calling it quits. They met in New York in September 2020 and quickly developed a strong bond.

An insider at the time revealed that Holmes was "head over heels for her new man," and he in turn "treats her like a princess." The source also added Holmes felt this relationship was the "real deal" and had the "potential to go all the way."

Subsequently, the actress and Vitolo were frequently seen holding hands and kissing in public. Holmes reportedly was happy to be with "a centered, down-to-earth companion" who wasn’t affected by fame.

However, in April 2021, the pair decided to focus on individual commitments and give each other some space.

In the following months, Holmes and Vitolo have not been seen together, particularly because the Batman Begins actress was busy shooting her second feature as a director.

On May 5, the actress announced the completion of The Watergate Girl, an unlikely love story in which a couple must confront quarantine and their disdain for one another.

Holmes and Suri: Their lifelong Bond

The former Dawson's Creek star was finally able to spend quality time with her daughter Suri Cruise,15, following the completion of her movie and her recent breakup.

On July 14, the mother-daughter duo was spotted shopping together at the SoHo district in Lower Manhattan. They appeared to be in a great mood, smiling and laughing as they walked down the shopping district together.

Holmes has been Suri's primary caretaker since her divorce from her ex-husband Tom Cruise in 2012.

Cruise, who does have visitation rights, has barely used them and has been an estranged father figure for the most part. He was last seen in public with his daughter in 2013.

The Mission: Impossible actor allegedly cut off ties with Holmes and Suri due to his affiliation to the Church of Scientology. Following her messy divorce, Holmes moved to New York.

Since then, she has done everything in her power to protect Suri from the paparazzi, who were fascinated by the allegations surrounding the divorce.

At the time, Holmes said, "My biggest goal has always been to nurture [Suri] into her individuality, to make sure she is 100 percent herself and strong, confident, and able. And to know it."

Holmes revealed that the duo was followed around a lot when Suri was little. She would take Suri out to parks at six in the morning to avoid being seen and photographed.

An insider also shared, "Katie feels like her daughter really is her little angel… It’s no exaggeration to say that Suri and Katie have saved each other. They really are wonderful together."

Despite working through an intense divorce with a superstar celebrity and pushing hard to excel in her career in entertainment, Holmes has groomed Suri into the independent individual she envisioned.
