Jon Bernthal tied the knot with his wife Erin Angle in 2010.

But the wedding probably would not have taken place had it not been for musician Willie Nelson.

The Walking Dead actor was at a bar when he noticed his pals talking to two women, so he joined them and mucked about until he saw his future wife.

"I had never seen anyone so beautiful," Bernthal recalled to Men's Health.

He hit it off with the young Georgetown University Hospital nurse, and they eventually started dating.

But as a young clueless 20 something, he "did a bunch of dumb stuff," and Angle dumped him and moved to San Francisco.

To win her back, the actor would drive up to the Bay Area and put flowers and poems on her car.

Finally, one day when Angle's anger had softened, he took her to see Nelson at the Fillmore.

The actor snuck backstage, left a note to the musician explaining his situation with his woman, and asked him to play 'Always on My Mind' for him and Angle.

Fortunately, Nelson did, and that night they got back together for good.

Jon Bernthal and His Wife's Family

Bernthal and his spouse dated for several years before getting married. And after marriage, they started a family.

The couple had their first child, a son named Henry, in August 2011.

Almost two years later, they welcomed their second son, Billy, in January 2013, and in 2015, they had their daughter, Adeline.

After their daughter's birth, Bernthal had gotten a role in Ryan Gosling-helmed movie First Man. But he backed out of the project.

The actor later opened up to Men's Health about his decision.

His daughter had an unexpected seizure and entered a coma, which they later found was caused by encephalitis.

Adeline woke up three days later, but she didn't recognize her family and loved ones.

Bernthal shared his partner reacted by "pouring love into [their] daughter every step of the way."

He credited his spouse for saving the family from the trauma.

"People talk about bravery like fake macho bravery, but my wife didn't flinch," the actor told the publication.

Fortunately, his daughter has since recovered from the ordeal.

Jon Bernthal on Balancing Work and Family

As a married man with three kids, Bernthal's schedule is certainly demanding.

During an interview with Insider, the actor revealed he stuck to one rule to balance his hectic work schedule while finding time for his family.

He made sure he completely focused on whatever he did. He did not work or use his cell phone when he was at home with the kids.

But he committed to it completely at work, hoping that his children would understand how hard he worked.

"I try to dive in 100% and stay in it and at the end of the day I'm trying to build something in every character that I help create and every movie that I'm part of," said the actor.

He added that every work he put out had his children's name on it. Therefore, he took everything seriously and gave it his all.

But Bernthal acknowledged that all this was possible because of his wife, who made it work.Â
