Welcoming a son into the world changed Jill Scott's life in more ways than one. Apart from falling in love with her baby boy, she also let the pounds fall off her—just like that, she lost 63 pounds.

After shedding the pounds, the songstress sat down with Us Weekly to open up about what made her lose so much weight and how she managed to pull it off. She went from 263 pounds to 200 pounds in about two years.

Jill Scott's Amazing Weight Loss

Scott explained that she wasn't at her healthiest before slimming down. In fact, she was so out of shape that she would run out of breath in less than a flight of stairs. Still, even after such an amazing weight loss, 'The Light of the Sun' singer assured, "I'll never be a stick figure."

Expounding further on her weight loss journey, she then touched on what got her started, and the doting mother credited all of her weight loss motivation to her then newborn son, Jett. She said,

There's a world of discovery in his eyes, and I want to be around to enjoy it!

Jill Scott Welcomed Son

The singer welcomed her first son with her ex-fiancé, drummer Lil John Roberts, on April 20, 2009. The baby was born weighing in at 7 lbs., 8 oz.

Since she welcomed her baby, she changed her lifestyle for the better. Her diet consisted of three low-fat meals and two snacks per day. What better way to put those calories to use than to burn some off at the gym? That's exactly what she ended up doing.

She put in 60-minute cardio and strength-training sessions with Los Angeles-based professional trainer Scott Parker three times a week.

Additionally, her workout routine involved kickboxing, boxing, and her favorite — biking outdoors, where she took Jett along for. She even assured fans that she and her trainer had fun playing out that routine.

Motherhood Was a Once Lost Hope

While her adorable baby boy brought so much positivity into her life, she once told Essence that she had given up all hope of becoming a mother. At the time, she said,

I didn’t think it was possible for me to have kids because I was told I couldn’t conceive.

Ironically, she found out that she was pregnant when she noticed she had put on seven pounds in just as many days. She was about to leave for Botswana to film her new TV show.

She genuinely thought there was something wrong with her but found out just before she left for Africa that she was expecting.

She told Essence that she kept her pregnancy away from the public eye for the first six months. Because at her age (37 at the time), she was considered high risk for pregnancy. She wanted to make sure that everything was alright before she broke the news to the world.

“My closest friends and family knew and that was enough for me,” she added.

She only revealed that she was pregnant when she appeared at a press event for the Television Critics Association conference in Los Angeles in January 2009.
