All about Gregory Mecher: His Bio, Net Worth and Personal Life
Gregory Mecher began working in politics as a college student and is the husband to the White House Press Secretary Jennifer Psaki.
Mecher became famous when his wife, Psaki, worked as communications director under the Obama administration. Now, under President Joe Biden's presidency, she is back in the White House as his press secretary.
Having crossed roads for the first time in 2006, during the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in 2006, Mecher and Psaki have been married for more than a decade and share two children together.
Gregory Mecher's Bio
Mecher was born on September 30, 1976, and grew up in Southern Ohio. He graduated from Northern Kentucky University, where he majored in communications and television production as part of the class of 1999.
Per Heavy, his political journey kick-started when he started serving as the student representative to the Board of Regents during his college, securing an internship with Kentucky Congressman Ken Lucas.
Mecher mentioned how the internship led to his desire to pursue a career in politics, and he has not looked back ever since.
When asked if he had any advice for aspiring NKU students, he suggested never to step back from making sacrifices as the work one puts in makes the accomplishment more satisfying.
Mecher has an estimated net worth of $900,000 and a fortune in real estate, according to an unknown source.
Gregory Mecher Met His Wife Due to Shared Political Interest
While Mecher was pursuing his career in Washington, DC, he worked as a chief of staff for Congressman Steve Driehaus of Ohio and Rep. Joe Kennedy III of Massachusetts.
According to The Washington Post, Psaki accidentally gave wrong directions to Mecher over a phone conversation to a political event in 2006. Mecher forgave Psaki instead of getting upset because he found her attractive.
Mecher was hesitant to ask out Psaki at first, but he finally took the courage and proposed a date via mail. Fortunately, she agreed, and the two went on a dinner date in September 2006.
"Years later and being married to her, I can say this is definitely not one of my wife's strong points, directions. By the time I got there, I was wondering who the heck this person was."
Mecher and Psaki moved in together after the 2008 election, and Mecher proposed to his then-girlfriend a few months later. They tied the knot two years later, on May 8, 2010, at the Woodlawn Farm in Ridge, Maryland.
When he married Psaki, Mecher was working as chief of staff for Congressman Steve Driehaus of Ohio. Driehaus represented Ohio’s first district for one term, from 2009 to 2011.
They Are Raising Their Kids Away from the White House
While Mecher and their two kids have little to no presence in the social media game, Psaki makes sure to make occasional tweets about them. Her Twitter bio reads, “Mom of two humans under five.”
The couple purchased a three-bedroom townhouse in Virginia after moving out from Washington, D.C., in 2013 and they lived there until finally moving out in March 2019.
