Insider sources close to the former couple told the magazine that they had a few rocky months in their relationship before deciding to go their separate ways.
The couple had their son Rodeo (full name - Rhodes Robert Hedlund)Â on December 27, 2020. Their split came right after Rodeo's first birthday, which the couple celebrated together.
"Happy Birthday, Rodeo!" Roberts wrote on her Instagram post about her son's birthday. She uploaded three pictures, one of which showed Hedlund standing behind her at a celebration party.
The other two pictures were of birthday cakes for little Rodeo.
In a subsequent post, Roberts expressed her disbelief at her son turning one-year-old.
Hedlund had "stepped it up" after having a baby. He ensured Roberts had everything she needed after giving birth and took care of her throughout her recovery.
After the split, the insider source said they were trying their best to co-parent, but it had been difficult for them both.
Garrett Hedlund's Life Post Break Up
Hedlund has been doing a few things on his own after the reported breakup.
Starting with the good things, the country singer joined Instagram.
"Guess who finally joined Instagram," the singer wrote on his inaugural IG post. "Been cookin' somethin' up in the studio for the past couple of months, and now I finally get to share it with the world."
He then revealed the release date for his first single as a solo artist — 'The Road' came out on January 21, 2022.
Ending the post, he talked about how he had "a lot more stuff" coming out soon, and he could not wait to share the music with his fans.
About two days after People revealed their breakup, Hedlund was arrested for public intoxication in Franklin County, Tennessee.
Hedlund, who got arrested on January 22, did not stay in custody for long.
Before the arrest, he displayed unusual behavior that alerted one of the witnesses to inform the police. He allegedly tried to jump out of a vehicle earlier that day.
He even attacked one witness, but they did not press charges against the singer. He was released soon after on a $2,100 bond.
This wasn't the first time he had been involved in an offense related to intoxication. In January 2020, Hedlund was arrested for a DUI offense.
He crashed his car into another vehicle in front of him at a red light. On January 21, 2022, he was sued after horribly injuring a mother-daughter duo who was in the car he hit.
