If you enjoy the British telly, you probably know and love both David Mitchell and his adorable yet witty wife, Victoria Coren, who now goes by Victoria Coren Mitchell.

Despite Coren being introduced to the comic with the pretext of "You should probably marry him" by their mutual friend David Baddiel, the relationship wasn't all that smooth sailing.

David Mitchell & His Wife's First Encounter

During an interview with RadioTimes, the Only Connect host recalled how she first met Mitchell.

Both of them were attendees at a party when her friend Baddiel walked up to her and offered to introduce her to Mitchell.

Coren remembered Baddiel specifically saying, "There's David Mitchell over there, I think you should probably marry him, I'll get the ball rolling by introducing you."

Naturally, she thought the idea was ridiculous, but she decided to entertain her friend's offer, regardless.

A few hours into the conversation, she realized Baddiel was onto something.

I thought that was ridiculous but, a couple of hours later, I thought I probably would marry him.

Love at First Sight

On the other side of the spectrum was Mitchell, who'd once told The Guardian that he hated "the sort of dating thing."

His line of reasoning was that he found the entire process incredibly awkward.

"I don't dislike being single enough to put myself through the pain," he confided.

However, on a later day, the same outlet came to the conclusion that the TV personality wasn't being entirely honest. It wasn't that he didn't know how to sustain a love life. It was that he was heartbroken.

In the latter interview, Mitchell confirmed he met the woman who would later be his wife during a film premiere.

"Funny, bright, sexy, nervous and confident" were the words he used to describe Coren.

Much like his wife, he knew she was the one. Sadly, their relationship didn't blossom immediately.

David Mitchell Put on the 'Dysfunctional Loser' Persona

After going out with Mitchell a couple of times, Coren ended things between them.

Coren was grieving the loss of her father at the time, but the outlet also entertained the idea of her meeting someone else or the relationship being off-timed.

For the first time in his life, being single was lonely. However, he couldn't take the public eye digging too deep into his love life.

So, he put on the persona of a "dysfunctional loser."

David Mitchell Waited 3 Years for His Wife

Apparently, all good things come to those who wait, and Mitchell had waited patiently for three whole years to get back to the woman he loved.

"I waited three years. Isn't that weird? Aren't I odd? I can't explain it other than to say I couldn't do anything else," he wrote in his memoir.

Shortly after, he admitted that if he'd known that he just had to wait three years, he would have gladly suffered ten folds.

How David Mitchell Proposed

In the interview, he also opened up about how he proposed.

The duo was getting ready to head out to a restaurant when he suddenly decided that proposing in public would be a tad bit too embarrassing to his liking — the kitchen it is.

He also recalled that he didn't get down on one knee, not because he didn't want to, but because he knew she wouldn't like it.

Their wedding was in November 2012. Since then, they have welcomed two beautiful children into the world: daughter Barbara Elizabeth June Mitchell and a second child whose identity has not yet been revealed.
