Legendary rockstar David Crosby came of age in the 1960s, first with the Byrds and then CSN. Crosby would have probably remained with the Byrds had he not been sacked for being insufferable.

After that, he joined forces with Graham Nash and Stephen Stills to form CSN, and his musical career took off like a rocket launching into space.

But by then, Crosby was already heavily into substance use and soon began experimenting with every drug available on the market because it was a "hip" thing to do.

Unfortunately, the rockstar was destined for great things, but he lost control which derailed his career for the next two decades.

The rocker was busted by the police one too many times and convicted of possession of cocaine and a loaded pistol.

He developed a perforated septum from snorting too much coke and almost lost his life twice.

Many years later, in 2019, Crosby opened up about his battle with drugs and children during an interview with Closer Weekly.

David Crosby’s Confident His Children Will Not Go Down His Drug-Fueled Path

In 1989, Crosby and his wife weaned themselves off hard drugs and started a family together.

Crosby has six children, and only his son, Django Crosby, was conceived with his wife after extensive fertility treatments while Crosby’s liver was failing.

The rockstar had daughters Erika Crosby with Jackie Guthrie and Donovan Crosby with former girlfriend, Debbie Donovan.

His son James Raymond was conceived with Celia Crawford Ferguson, while Beckett Cypher and Bailey Jean Cypher were born to Melissa Etheridge and her then-partner Julie Cypher after Crosby agreed to be the sperm donor.

When asked if he worried his children would go down the same drug-fueled path as he did, he told Closer Weekly he was certain they would not.

“They all apparently learned from my mistakes, because none of them are interested in hard drugs. I think they saw what happened and have avoided it, which certainly is a wonderful thing,” said the singer.

He shared he was most proud of his children and revealed that all of them were doing well.

David Crosby’s Biological Son Beckett Cypher Died from Drugs

Unfortunately, as confident as Crosby was about his kids not making the mistakes he made, a year later, in May 2020, his biological son, Beckett, passed away.

Beckett’s mother, Etheridge, revealed that her son had succumbed to drug addiction.

She took to Twitter and opened up about the tragic loss.

“My son Beckett, who was just 21, struggled to overcome his addiction and finally succumbed to it today. He will be missed by those who loved him, his family and friends,” tweeted Etheridge.

Crosby, too, opened up about the loss. A user on Twitter had claimed that the rockstar had not been involved in Beckett’s life, to which he replied, “not true.”

In 2021, during an interview with The Guardian, Crosby revealed his son was a skateboarder and had a couple of crashes.

He got some painkillers which got him addicted. He then ran into somebody who had a potent substance, and he overdosed and died.

Crosby regarded Beckett like his own son, sharing that he and his daughter, Bailey, visited him often.
