David Boreanaz’s Father Talks about Family’s Ethnic Identity
David Boreanaz began his professional acting career in the early 90s before finding fame as Angel in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003). His character received much love from fans of the show and it wasn’t long before he got his own spin off TV series titled Angel in 1999.
Since then Boreanaz has been involved in multiple TV series including SEAL Team (2017-2021) and Bones (2005-2017). And on top of acting, he has also been producing and directing some of the shows he has been a part of.
One such show is the crime-procedural comedy-drama Bones where Boreanaz plays Seeley Booth, an FBI agent. The actor starred in all 12 seasons of the series and even produced it.
Additionally, he also directed several episodes of Bones, including the series finale, where he included all of his family.
Towards the end of the 12th season of Bones, Boreanaz’s popular 6ABC weathercaster father, Dave Roberts, appeared as a news reporter.
His mother, Patti, had a small moment where she handed him a file. The actor’s wife Jaime, as well as his son and daughter, also appeared in the series.
David Boreanaz’s Father Talks About His Real Name
It was also in the 12th season of Bones that Boreanaz’s father was credited using his real name, David T. Boreanaz. The name is of Italian-Slovenian origin and Dave wasn’t allowed to use his name during his years as a weatherman.
When I started in the business, I couldn’t use that name. There were certain ethnic-type names that they didn’t want used because of who-knows-what back then.
According to Huffpost, Boreanaz’s American heritage is based almost entirely in Pennsylvania and New York, but three quarters of his family tree come from Europe.
He’s half Italian and one quarter Slovak. As for the last quarter, it can be traced back to Irish and German immigrants with hints of French and Swiss.
David Boreanaz’s Family
Boreanaz has been married to his wife, Jaime Bergman, since 2001. The duo has two children together — daughter Bella Boreanaz and son Jaden Boreanaz.
Boreanaz and his wife moved incredibly quickly after their first meeting and had tied the knot within a year of dating. Their marriage has lasted two decades and the two are still going strong. However, the couple’s relationship wasn’t without its own problems.
Back in May 2010, the Bones star had opened up to People about not being faithful to his wife. “Our marriage has been tainted with my infidelities. I just want to be open and honest. I was irresponsible.”
Boreanaz further added that his decision to go public with his affair came about because he was being extorted by a woman he was previously involved with. Following the incident, the pair went through a rough patch in their relationship and it seemed uncertain if their marriage would last.
However, Boreanaz and Bergman continued working on their relationship and were back together after a year of sorting things out with the help of therapy. The actor later revealed that his marriage had gotten stronger because of the affair.
