D’Arcy Carden’s Husband Became Superstitious after She Landed a Role on ‘The Good Place’

D’Arcy Carden has been in her fair share of dramas, but her role in the hit NBC comedy, The Good Place, is deemed one of her best in recent years.

Carden starred as the “extremely pleasant, ultra-capable, not-a-robot” named Janet for four seasons.

The actress cleverly humanized a non-human character and won the hearts of her audience on the show.

It also earned her an Emmy nomination for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series.

The role changed her life, and during her appearance on A Little Late With Lilly Singh, she discussed her husband, Jason Carden’s, reaction when she scored her role in the dramedy.

Recalling the time, she shared that once she and her partner learned about her landing the role, he became superstitious because it felt too good to be true.

“When I finally got this job, he was like, ‘You need to be careful now.' I was very happy with this job. And he kept being like, ‘Buckle your seatbelt, Don’t take a wrong turn’ like, something bad’s gonna happen,” shared The Good Place star. 

She joked that her husband put bad juju on her and gushed that he was supportive and the best partner she could ask for.

For those out of the loop, the actress’ spouse is a producer, and some of his projects include the movie The To-Do List and the series Rhonda Casting. 

He is also the vice president of the Sethmaker Shoemeyers Productions.

The duo met through mutual friends when they took a trip to Disneyland together and hit off. They became best friends before being romantically involved and eventually got married in 2010.

The couple initially lived in New York when they were dating.

Carden had moved there after finishing college to pursue her dream of becoming an actress.

Meanwhile, her husband had been hired as a producer for Saturday Night Live.

Even though both of them had great gigs, in 2013, they knew it was time to leave New York and move to California for better opportunities.

Thankfully, they did because, after struggling to make it in LA for a few years, she got the part of Janet in The Good Place in 2016.

D’Arcy Carden Wants Kids

The couple does not have any children, but Carden has expressed their desire to have children in the future.

She opened up about her willingness to become pregnant and have kids in an episode of her co-star, Kristen Bell’s husband, Dax Shepard’s podcast, Armchair Expert.

The actress said that she and her partner had talked about wanting kids for a long time now, and they definitely would in their future, but they were trying to figure out how to make it work.

She added she would need IVF and plan everything carefully. But she did not want to do it until she was sure she could balance her career and motherhood.

Fortunately, taking care of kids would not pose a problem for her, as she has tons of practice from her babysitting days.

The actress was a nanny for ten years and left the job after she landed the part in The Good Place.
