Dan Smyers and Wife Were Heartbroken before Their Fourth Wedding Anniversary

Dan Smyers and his wife Abby Law have been together for over eight years. As animal lovers, the couple has fostered many animals, including four dogs.

Smyers and Law have talked about their mutual love of animals frequently.

In fact, Law described Smyers as “the father to our canines” in her first Instagram post about their marriage.

However, she wasn’t the only one with such words.

Even the musician had written, “We’re gonna save all the animals together, FOREVER,” when announcing his engagement.

And true to their words, Smyers and his wife have continued rescuing animals.

Unfortunately, on May 13, 2021, just a day before their fourth marriage anniversary, the two took to Instagram to share the sad news of the passing of their fifth dog, named missy/tiny/little one.

The pair had adopted Missy when she was 16 years old. They came across her at Wags and Walk Rescue in Nashville.

She was in a terrible condition, so Smyers and Law decided to nurse her back to health before finding her a home.

However, when they later found that Missy had little time left, the singer and his wife decided to adopt her.

Both Smyers and Law posted about Missy’s progress frequently on their Instagram.

The musician noted they knew Missy didn’t have much time left but were still shaken by her passing.

“Our hearts are broken to share the news that sweet missy/tiny/little one has passed away. We knew when we adopted her at age 16 with terminal cancer that our time together would be limited, but it’s still never easy saying goodbye to a loved one.”

As Missy had passed just a day before their fourth anniversary, their milestone wasn’t as bright as usual.

Posting several pictures from their wedding, Law noted that the day’s post was happier than the sad news they shared earlier. 

Dan, on the other hand, did not make a post to mark their anniversary.

Smyers and Law met for the first time at an animal rescue center in 2013.

Aside from both loving animals and working actively to rescue them, they are also vegetarians.

They started dating not long after, and he proposed to her on Waikiki Beach in Hawaii in November 2016.

To celebrate their engagement, Smyers made a brief reference to how they met, writing how he would save animals together with her.

After a year of engagement, Smyers and Law tied the knot in Nashville on May 14, 2017.

The wedding was attended by their dogs Chief, Joy, and Ghost, aside from friends and family.

Smyers and his wife also included a fundraiser for Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue in their registry.

The couple often volunteer and foster dogs through Proverbs.
