Charlize Theron describes her younger self in her 20s as a wake-and-baker.

The actress hasn’t been shy of talking about her relationship with smoking and drugs throughout the years and has also revealed why she quit them.

When talking to Vogue in 2011, Theron said she was “highly addicted” to smoking.

Though she refused to detail how she did it at the time, Santa Monica Mirror reported that Kerry Gaynor, a certified hypnotist from Santa Monica, helped the Mad Max: Fury Road star quit.

Gaynor referred to hypnosis as the most potent way for a person to break an addiction.

He also revealed he had helped other well-known names, including Matt Damon and Aaron Eckhart, break their addictions.

Why Charlize Theron Quit Smoking Weed

Aside from smoking cigarettes, Theron has also been open about her history of using weed.

The actress said her chemistry with marijuana was great, but she had to quit it in her early thirties as the way it affected her changed.

I really appreciated marijuana way more than alcohol or anything else. My chemistry was really good with it when I was younger and then it just changed one day. Like, in my early thirties I just became boring on it and I would just stand in front of my fridge.

However, the actress has since expressed her openness to retrying it as there were many more strains available.

She added she wanted to get off of her sleeping pills and try marijuana instead to deal with her insomnia.

Charlize Theron Tried 4 Different Kinds of Drugs

Theron experimented with many things when she was young. And that is precisely why she says she is satisfied with what she has done with her life.

My 20s were really about getting a lot of stuff out of my system — wanting to experience the world, do drugs, travel to Turkey for four months with a backpack… and I love it because I’ve lived… If I die tomorrow, I’m at peace with who I am in my life.

During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, which Theron and Seth Rogen attended with their mothers, the actress shared about the different kinds of drugs she had tried.

Theron revealed she had tried molly, acid, mushrooms, and cocaine. She also added that it was a long time ago, mostly during her 20s and that she had tried nothing of the sort recently.
