Chanel Thierry and DJ Mustard recently filed for divorce just a year after their marriage. Theirs was a long relationship, but they could not translate that into a lasting marital bond.

The former couple has a lot to sort out after filing for divorce, including the custody of their kids.

Chanel Thierry and DJ Mustard Started Dating a Decade Ago

Thierry and DJ Mustard, whose real name is Dijon Isaiah McFarlane, started going out over a decade ago. Mustard and Thierry began their relationship when they were both 19.

After over eight years of romance, they got engaged in 2018. His proposal was elaborate and expensive — he proposed to her with a $500,000 engagement ring.

Chanel Thierry Met DJ Mustard at 16

In her Engagement announcement post on October 28, 2018, Thierry wrote in detail about their relationship and how they had grown together.

"I knew when I met you at 16, it was something about you about us, I didn’t want to mess up," she wrote. "You stayed my friend even tho we both wanted to be more... We was scared. I didn’t want things to go left."

Then, after three years of friendship and watching each other go through bad relationships, they started dating. Their initial days were difficult, but they persevered.

They Got Married in 2020

The former couple waited two years after their engagement to tie the knot. They got married in October 2020.

Their wedding was a small event held on October 10, 2020, with VIP guests like Ella Mai.

COVID had postponed their actual wedding to 2021. But, they got legally married on October 10, 2020, and held a small, intimate dinner to celebrate their marriage.

They Have Three Kids Together

Thierry and Mustard share three kids together. They had their first child, son Kiy, on February 10, 2012.

Then, on February 6, 2015, the couple welcomed their second kid, daughter Kauner Dijon. And finally, on May 20, 2019, their youngest son, Kody, arrived.

DJ Mustard Initiated Their Divorce

On May 3, 2022, TMZ exclusively reported that Mustard had filed for divorce from his wife of just over a year. According to the documents TMZ claimed they obtained, he filed the papers in a LA court.

He cited the usual "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for divorce and asked the court to grant them joint legal and physical custody of their three little ones.

Mustard also mentioned he and Thierry had a prenup.

A few things are casting doubts on the divorce reports. Thierry, in her recent Instagram post, is still wearing her wedding band. Additionally, as of this writing, she hasn't deleted her wedding and engagement posts from Instagram.
