Andy Samberg Had the Biggest Crush on His Wife before Dating Her

Andy Samberg has been happily married to his wife and singer-songwriter Joanna Newsom since 2013.

Audiences might recognize Samberg as the comedy powerhouse from Saturday Night Live, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and The Lonely Island comedy troupe. 

And despite his massive popularity, not much is known about the comedian's personal life. But that's probably on purpose.

The Brooklyn Nine-Nine actor refrains from talking too much about his life outside his career, although he has revealed some details here and there about his life with his wife and daughter.

So what do we know about the comedian's love life?

It turns out that Samberg had the biggest crush on his wife even before they started dating. He met Newsom in 2008 through their mutual friend, Fred Armisen. 

Armisen turned up to one of Newsom's shows with Samberg, who was already a huge fan of her before they met.

He would always go to her concerts and follow her new music projects. 

But little did he know Newsom was also a big fan of his comedy.

The pair eventually started dating, and, five years later, in February 2013, they got engaged.

A source reported that the happy couple had great chemistry and preferred quiet date nights at home to all-night parties.

And after seven months, the couple tied the knot at the Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur, California, on September 21.

According to Us Weekly, many of Samberg's Saturday Night Live co-stars were in attendance. 

Celebrities like Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Adam Sandler, and Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels were present. Grammy-winning artist Justin Timberlake was also there with his missus. 

The bride reportedly walked down the aisle in a Zac Posen wedding dress while the Saturday Night Live alum donned a custom suit by David Hart.

According to a source, "Despite lots of laughter, there were tears too. 'Andy's speech was the perfect mix of comedy and sentiment. Both he and Joanna were crying throughout the speech.'"

And the evening before, there were lots of stand-up performances by the guests.

Two years after their wedding, the duo welcomed their daughter in August. Us Weekly broke the news, but the name of the daughter was not revealed.

The parents have continued to stay mum on any personal details about their daughter.

Despite keeping their daughter's details private, Samberg has publicly joked about his life as a father. 

During his appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, he joked he could not remember the last time he had a normal bite of a sandwich.

"I eat all of her bread crust, so my tum's a little fat. I've eaten more crusts in the last two-and-a-half years," joked Samberg.  

But on a serious note, the father of one shared that being a father was the best thing that happened to him.

He told The New York Times that becoming a father was a beautiful, incredible dream, and it surpassed every expectation he ever had.
