Sophie Grace was over the moon when she was cast in Netflix’s adaption of The Baby-Sitters Club, which is one of her favorite book series.

Speaking with Los Angeles Times on July 2, 2020, the 15-year-old actress remembered hearing about the book series from her older sister when she was six years of age.

But now, reading the same story and portraying the lead role of Kristy Thomas, the founder, and president of the babysitters club, was an exciting feeling for her.

“It was something we shared and bonded over,” the actress said. “It felt cool reading something that she had read.”

Grace could connect to the character easily because she realized they have similar personalities.

She emphasized that even her friends and family reminded her of the similarities.

She jokingly added that the only difference between them was that she liked art and was into fashion, whereas her character was not interested in those things.

The Terror in the Woods star further felt honored to be part of the series The Baby-Sitters Club, a show many kids could relate to.

Grace explained that her character had her family struggles because of her parents’ divorce.

“That’s really hard for kids, and we see how she’s finding her way through that,” she added.

For Grace, meeting the book’s author Ann M. Martin was another significant accomplishment. In her own words, she felt like floating on a cloud when she first met with Martin.

The Series: ‘The Baby-Sitters Club’

The children’s novel series-based Netflix show The Baby-Sitters Club follows the story of five middle-schoolers.

The five form a club through which they start a babysitting business in the fictional town of Stoneybrook, Connecticut.

The main character of Kristy Thomas, portrayed by Grace, acts as the president of the club. She is vocal about women’s rights and frequently calls out social injustices.

The other cast of the series includes Momona Tamada, Shay Rudolph, Malia Baker, and Alicia Silverstone.

The series premiered its first season on July 3, 2020. The same year in October, it was renewed for a second season.

A Look Into Grace’s Brief Career

Grace, whose birthday is on April 8, made her acting debut in 2018 when she was cast in a short film, The Over-the-Hill Grand Prix.

Following that, the Jacksonville resident starred in two more short films Genesis and Business as Unusual, before landing her first major professional gig, the television movie Terror in the Woods.

All of that in the same year.

The actress had booked her first audition for the movie Terror in the Woods after two years of intense acting training. She succeeded in the audition and got cast in the lead role as Kaitlyn.

Her work in the movie led her to the role in the Netflix series The Baby-Sitters Club.
