June Edith Mama June Shannon is an actor primarily known for Dumb and Dumber To, and Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.

The 41-year-old superstar has opened up about her preparations for the Mama June's Show, her battle with addiction, and how she has prepared to bid farewell to reality shows. So, what is June Shannon doing now? Is she sober today?

Recently, a sober June Shannon is back with her healing journey, a brand new season of her reality show, Mama June: Road to Redemption.

Being a Center of Controversies

June Shannon has always been a subject of controversy. First, she got pregnant at the tender age of 14, which also probed her to drop out of school.

Over the years, she has dated men from varied backgrounds, including convicts and child molesters. She has also had her daughter Alana with Mike Thompson, who's a convicted child molester.

The Dark Secret

"I was around drugs my whole life. Addiction does run in my family," shares the reality star to Access Hollywood's Kit Hoover. She further confessed that she had been on meth until 2015. The reality star said she had dropped more than $1 million on various dope items together with her boyfriend Geno Doak. Her issues pertaining to substance abuse came to light in 2019 when she got booked. It was suspected that the star was possessing some controlled substance for smoking up cocaine alongside her boyfriend, Doak. 

Her Drastic Weight Loss Journey

June Shannon had undergone a drastic 300-pound weight loss in 2016. In an interview with WE TV, the reality show star revealed that she had gastric sleeve surgery along with a tummy tuck in 2016. At one point in time, she weighed around 460 pounds. 


Unfortunately, one of the most striking features of June Shannon's personality was her weight. But, like most things in her life, the weight loss journey was also not a secret. During the surgery, the size of the stomach was reduced by 75 percent. 

Moreover, she has also worked with a professional fitness trainer, Kenya Crooks. She revealed her goal for the drastic weight loss was to fit into a size 4, a long-sleeve dress that she wanted to flaunt during her ex's wedding. 

June Shannon and the World of Reality Shows

 Mama June’s 21-year-old daughter, Lauryn Pumpkin Shannon Efird, who starred in Here Comes Honey Boo Boo from 2012-2017, says she’s done with reality TV for now because of the negative impact on her childhood. She also confessed that she and her younger sister, Alana Honey Boo Boo Thompson, are ready to pursue a more normal life away from the cameras. Lauryn said she wants to work on a nursing career while her little sister said she wants a normal teenage experience.
