Michelle Dockery’s Bio: Age, Height & Early Life

On 15 December 1981, Michelle Suzanne Dockery was born in Rush Green, London to parents, Lorraine and Michael Francis Dockery. Her father is a former Irish lorry driver who later became an environmental analyst.

The 36-year-old actress was raised in Romford, East London along with her two older sisters, Louise and Joanne. She attended Chadwell Heath Academy first and eventually started going to Finch Stage School.

Standing at the average height of 5 feet 8 inches (1.73 meters), Michelle enrolled at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama after her A Levels. There, she was awarded the Gold Medal at her graduation for Drama in 2004.

The Downton Abbey star was engaged to her late boyfriend, Irish PR director John Dineen. She had been dating John since September 2013 after the Irish actor, Allen Leech introduced the two.

The couple was first seen together on holiday in Venice, Italy during the year’s 70th International Venice Film Festival. And it was in February 2015 when headlines were filled with Michelle showing off a diamond ring on her engagement finger to her co-stars.

They did well on keeping their privacy safe with Michelle only referencing her then-boyfriend in an interview as she mentioned having a wonderful man in her life from Ireland.

But the happiness didn’t last long as John passed away on 13 December 2015 at the age of 34 from a rare form of cancer. Michelle was at her fiance’s bedside as he took his last breath at Marymount Hospice in Cork, Ireland.

In a talk about her coping with her fiance’s death with the Telegraph, Michelle said,

We were engaged, and married at heart, and so I do consider myself a widow.

She also mentioned how John never complained once when his prognosis became terminal.

John was a very private person, so Michelle and her family appealed for privacy during his funeral service in Cork. Michelle confessed about how her family and friends had helped her to cope with her late future husband’s absence.
